If anybody attended this candidate forum, can you please provide us with
a summary of how it went.
I didn't attend the luncheon on Friday, but a close friend gave me a report.
She said it was a much smaller group than the 100 or so at the Sun City Meeting last Tuesday. Some of the statements made by the candidates were very similar.
My friend stood up and asked Terry Parish in front of all if it were true that he took money from Developers and he admitted it!
Mr. Parish later mentioned the filters on the computers at the Oro Valley library and said that Salette Latas had questioned having these as Mrs. Latas "was a pornographer"!
Later, when Salette Latas was discussing the water issues and impending cost facing Oro Valley, she stated that she "had to respond to the charge that she was a 'pornographer'". Mrs. Latas indicated that her concern about the filters was that you could not get information like health issues such as breast cancer, because "breast" was a word stopped by the filter. She indicated other health information was unavailable because of physical terms used, as well. Mrs. Latas is well-acquainted with health issues because of her son's fight with leukemia.
So according to Parish because somebody has an opinion other then his or voices questions or concerns they are "guilty" of something. This is a scary way to think especially for somebody who is in a position of power. For Parish to bring this nonsense up shows his small mind and small way of thinking.
If this is true that he called another candidate a sick name at a public forum, I hope the people in attendance were disgusted with his behavior. He owes Salatte Latas a public apology ,also he should apologize to the club members.
Also in my opinion taking or accepting money from a developer is nothing to be proud of unless you think that buying influence and power is admirable. I don't
OK, I never resort to name-calling unless the other side launches the first shot...
So, if Parish can call Latas a "pornographer" because she is against the use of library computer filters, well, then, I can call Parish a "developer's whore" since he takes money from them in return for "favors."
But this is typical Republican campaigning. When they can't win on the issues, they resort to character assassination.
As is typical of Mr. Parish, he turns to whatever means he can in order to denigrate those with whom he 'disagrees'; aside from his blind attacks and blathering nonsense is he now turning to gutter politics in order to further his endless quest for his pablum?
Mr. Pima County Sheriff, this man is becoming a blight on the character of your otherwise respected force; you need a good heart to heart as Mr. Parish's continuing path of citizen denigration could begin to effect the esteem of your department as, at present, he is a public official as well as a deputy.
VC, you and I (and others) agree on many issues including this despicable reference ascribed to Mr. Parish, but, please, let's keep political orientations out of our discourses. Our goals should be simply those that we consider to be for the good of Oro Valley and the expressions thereof should not be attributable as to whether or not we are Republicans or Democrats. Please!
Sorry about that, Zev. I have a tendency to become very sarcastic when I'm dealing with people who say ignorant things, and Parish calling Latas a pornographer might just be the most ignorant thing he has said to-date.
FYI, I'm registered as an independent because I'm not happy with either party. So my anti-Republican comment wasn't made because I'm a Democrat. It was just an observation that I've made over the years.
