Kudos to Scott Deveraux, Sun City General Manager and The Sun City Vistoso Government Affairs Committee on having an Oro Valley Candidate Forum. The room was filled to capacity with Sun City residents and other concerned Oro Valley citizens, who were able to gain an insight on the three incumbents and two challengers.
As I support Bill Garner and Salette Latas, it was not surprising that they showed a solid grasp on the issues and both differentiated themselves in many instances from the three incumbents.
Terry Parish once again stood out as being the only one of the five to not only acknowledge he accepts contributions from the big developers, but is proud to so. It didn't appear the audience was too happy to know while the developers who receive a windfall of millions of our tax dollars, always get the support of Parish at the expense of the citizens who get taxed on every conceivable necessity.
We also found it interesting that Parish & Helen Dankwerth indicated they are against a property tax. Perhaps these two Council Members do not think a Bond Issue for a secondary property tax to fund a park is a "property tax."
One other point. Both Parish & Dankwerth once again stated that giving Sanofil-Aventis, the multi billion dollar pharmaceutical company a "kickback" of $360, 000 in construction fees is a "minuscule amount." Giving away OUR money while taxing our gas, water & electric is unconscionable!
There was more, but, these are a few examples of why we need to elect BILL GARNER & SALETTE LATAS to the ORO VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL.

So now Dankwerth and Parish are against a property tax, how the heck do they think this big theme park is going to be paid for? Ahh, I get it, the developers will donate and pay for it. yeah right!
How do those who care get the word out about all this flip flopping?
Are most paying attention?
Would be nice to have another candidate forum open to the public.
Good Luck to Salette Latas and Bill Garner.
I would like to request that the LOVE blog site do a summary of how
Dankwerth, Gillaspie and Parish voted on controversial issues, that way the citizens and voters can see evidence of what they stand for.
You might also want to add what these candidates have supported in the past, specifically the EDA.
Some were not on council at the time, but they certainly were vocal about telling the rest of us to vote Yes.
In my mind that makes them accountable for the mess we are now facing.
That was a very interesting meeting in Sun City! I overheard Terry Parish loudly complaining to somebody in the front row, before the meeting. He said, "Yeh, now they stole my sign. There are some NASTY PEOPLE IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD!" We think he means the neighborhood adjacent to his approved crematorium! We understand that his signs all over town are being knocked over. Hmmmm
When Salette Latas informed us that CAP (Central Arizona Project) will need 173 million to bring us water because our water table is dropping five feet every year, we were wondering why a bond issue for a park, when we need water first.
When Barry Gillaspie kept referring to the "Previous Council" and their deeds, we wondered....wasn't HE on that council?
We came away with a great many new questions about what is happening to Oro Valley. Helen Danwerth said we mattered, but it sounded like "lip service" to us!
Bill Garner and Salette Latas seem to know what Oro Valley really needs....fiscal responsibility, greater transparency and good representation WITHOUT TAXATION!
Understand that, especially relative to Mr. Parish, persons who
are ego driven by bluster, generally have nothing tangible to offer in a presentation of things as they really are; it is thus that they are eventually revealed for their irrelevancy. Mr. Parish squirmed through several of his outright deceptions that were obviously driven by the
drivel of self-adulation. Simply put, as a Councilperson, he made no sense as to why he should remain as a participant in the guardianship of this community.
As for Mrs. Dankwerth, she is like a mother hen, aimlessly clucking her way around the around the societal barnyard. She's not a bad person, maybe just naive; but, that alone should be enough to terminate her reign.
