I have known Mr. McNamara since he joined The Explorer as a writer covering Oro Valley a couple of years ago. We have used the Explorer as a major source of our postings.
Patrick saw fit to send me the following email concerning some recent comments about The Explorer coverage of Oro Valley politics.
I'll allow Patrick's email to speak for itself.

Dear Art,
Reading your blog today, I noticed that a participant posted a claim that we at the Explorer have been “lavishing” coverage on Satish Hiremath and Mary Snider. As you are aware, we recently ran one short story about Hiremath and a similarly short piece about Snider.
I’m uncertain by what measure a pair of truncated stories amount to extravagant coverage, but we find it newsworthy when townspeople publicly announce their intentions to run for elected office. Others, perhaps, disagree.
The same participant to your forum also suggested that we “ignored” Salette Latas and Bill Garner. The claim, I’m sure you would agree, is preposterous. Moreover, it’s false.
In Latas’ case, she has received ample press, first as a private citizen heading up the special interest group Oro Valley First, then as a candidate for town council and now as a member of that body. Garner also has been quoted on numerous occasions in our pages.
Participants to your blog could read for themselves the multitude of stories that we have written that include quotes from council members Garner, Latas and other elected officials by searching our online archives.
Sincerely,
Patrick McNamara

Touchy, touchy. But I'm glad he's reading. I don't remember the Explorer doing stories like that when Latas and Garner announced their candidacies. You know, quotes, bios, what they wanted to accomplish. I'm glad that they're starting to pay more attention, though.
