We probably all heard of The Iron Man Competition. It's the grueling series of long-distance races consisting of swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles and a 26 miles 385 yards marathon raced in that order and without a break. The competition is held annually in Hawaii since 1978.
Less known is the kids version, although the IronKids National Event Series was started in 1985 and has seen more than 40,000 participants in its history.
The IronKids Series usually has 600 - 800 participants per event between the ages of 6 and 15 years old. Children will compete in age-appropriate distances with an emphasis on fitness, fun and safety.
Why bring this up on the blog? Well, thanks to the efforts of The Tucson Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau, the IronKids National Triathlon Series will be coming to Oro Valley on October 4 and operating out of James D. Kreigh Park.
