As a follow-up to their earlier report, The Explorer's Aug 6 edition has more details on all the problems Vestar is causing us with their Marketplace.
Is anyone surprised that David Malin, Vestar Project Manager blames almost every entity of Oro Valley for most of the problems.
Who in their right mind would believe anything Malin says? It was he that told us he'll bring us an "upscale, unique" shopping experience for our $23.2 million giveaway.
That Marketplace was a mistake when the three "out of office" council members, including Dick Johnson, approved it in 2004, and it has gotten only worse as each day goes by.

For a company that bills itself as the bestest, the greatest, most brilliant, award winning, nationally recognized shopping center god in the country, Vestar has certainly shown that it is simply a slickster at hustling a community. A good developer reasonably should have known that you don't cut down and move a mountain to fill and overcome a flood plain. A good developer reasonably should have known that you don't put a large shopping center at a 'T' intersection where traffic can only be doomed to crawl about. A good developer will not con a community into believing it will get something and then give them something else that could blight the area. A good developer will not amass a group of rag-tag stores and then, with a straight face, claim that they have amassed a brilliant array of
facilities. A good developer will not antagonize a community by garbaging up a major intersection with dust, debris, noise, care- less mistakes, breakage, blame and then blame the town for it's own incompetance. A good developer will not milk a community of it's income and then make claims that, after all, it is providing riparian restoration with thousands of trees and plants when, in fact, that was supposed to be an 'in stone' performance requirement by it's buddy, Vistoso Partners. A GOOD DEVELOPER WILL NEVER BULLDOZE A COMMUNITY; IT CAN COME BACK AND BITE YOUR ASS - DO YOU GET THAT,DAVID MALIN? DO YOU GET THAT VESTAR?
Exactly Zev!!
Vestar never had any intention of keeping their promises to OV.
Vestar only cared about collecting that 23.2 million .
So my question is what the heck is the town going to do about all this?
Let the town bring legal action against Vestar or revise that contract(EDA)
Vestar does not deserve the full share of the 23.2 million.
My personal feeling if they don't deserve any money.
Exactly, Zev and MsCoyote; and I too believe that Vestar should pay for damages incured.
I'd like to add to Zev's list of "a good developer"
A good developer would not complain that:"“Oro Valley code and ordinances are quite challenging,” Malin said. “They go over and above any other town in Arizona.”
I believe a good developer would be happy to be building where codes and ordinances are held high; speaks volumes for the quality of the town.
raindancer
Does anybody remember who was responsible for forcing Malin to come to Oro Valley and taking our $23.2 million?
Malin is like the proverbial zebra---He'll never changes his stripes.
He screwed us back then, and he and his company continue to screw the people of Oro Valley right up to the present.
Why anyone thinks this monster mall is an asset is beyond me.
Too bad we can put the whole place on a lift and ship it to Oracle----not that Oracle deserves this loser!
