Oro Valley Resident Will Not Shop At Vestar's Marketplace

The following letter published in the Aug 5 Az Star expresses the views of many Oro Valley residents. Thank you Karen Snyder for saying what needed to be said.

Will travel to avoid superstore
Re: the July 21 article "Retail center a collaborative effort."
I read, with interest, the story of Rillito Crossing Marketplace (being built at East Limberlost and North First Avenue) being a collaborative effort with surrounding neighborhoods.
The developer allowed residents to have an active role, and listened to their concerns, such as not wanting a "big box" store.

Oro Valley residents also voiced concerns about not wanting a big box store, but Vestar chose a Wal-Mart superstore at the soon-to-be-completed Oro Valley Marketplace. I, for one, will burn the gas to shop at Rillito Crossing rather than at the nearby stores built by Vestar Development in Oro Valley.

Or you can save gas and shop online.

Come to think of it, that's what I usually do. Eighty percent of my purchases over the past 5 years have been made online.

Other than that, I shop LaEncantada, Dillard's and Macy's. When the new Westcor mall opens near I-10 and Tangerine, I will shop there, too.

Quality is my number one concern. Not convenience, not cheap prices.

Maybe someday Oro Valley will have quality shopping.....
