The tagline, delivered as part of an overall address on the state of the town, is meant to convey the beauty of Oro Valley's natural surroundings. The Mayor noted that it can be used to convey other attributes, such as Oro Valley's eco-friendly policies.
"This has been an extraordinary year. And I'm here to tell you the state of our town is strong. As we move forward into 2012-2013, I'm excited about what lies ahead."
Mayor Hiremath devoted the majority of his speech to the concept of "community". He views Oro Valley and its sister communities as "spokes on the same county wheel." The Mayor stressed that Oro Valley succeeds when the region succeeds; therefore. cooperative efforts within the region matter to Oro Valley. He cited a number of examples:
- Sun Transit's takeover of the Coyote Run service, savomg Oro Valley $200,000;
- Transit of CAP water to Oro Valley through the City of Tucson water system;
- Turnover of the Oro Valley Library to the Pima County System, saving Oro Valley $600,000;
- MTCVB's development of a marketing program for the new Oro Valley Aquatic Center;
- "TREO" launch of the bio tech in Oro Valley, with "A big thank you to CEO Joe Snell;"
- Oro Valley Hospital's providing space for the Parkinson's patient exercise program;
- Greater Oro Valley Chamber of commerce acting as an extension of the town's economic development department; and
- RTA's road improvements in the area.
- The town has a balanced budget
- This year the town implemented COLA raises for all employees and step increases for the police;
- Steam pump ranch is open for business;
- An archery range is in process of construction;
- The aquatic center, which will be completed this spring, will be a centerpiece for the town; and
- Oro Valley is a safe community
- Provide basic service at affordable cost;
- Partner with other entities, private or public, for profit or not for profit, to better our community; and
- Assist residents who truly need help in these uncertain economic time.

Mayor Satish Hiremath’s speech on the “State of the Town” should have been changed to “State of the Region”
The Town of Oro Valley is no longer a “Town Of Excellence” on its own. The Town no longer strives for its individual excellence, but one based on regional collaboration.
The Town of Oro Valley exists as a member of the “collective” in the Pima County Region.
Some Regional Partnerships Mentioned
PAG/RTA
The Pima Association of Governments (PAG) and the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) have provided leadership in regional collaboration. Mayor Hiremath has been proud to serve as a PAG board member and as the chair of the RTA.
TREO
The Tucson Regional Economics Opportunities has been doing economic job development for the Region including Oro Valley. TREO has recently changed its model to being funded by private sources instead of any public funds (like the $43,000 Oro Valley used to contribute).
SAACA
In the past, Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA), the nonprofit arts group focused its efforts mainly in Oro Valley. Its prior name was the Greater Oro Valley Arts Council (GOVAC) that received extensive public money from the Town of Oro Valley. After the Town of Oro Valley cut off its funding, the group changed its name to the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA), in part to signal a change in direction. SAACA has added events to its schedule and forged new partnerships with outside regional groups to expand its reach.
Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce
The Northern Pima Chamber of Commerce has also changed its direction to rename itself the Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce. Under a Financial Participation Agreement (FPA) with the Town of Oro Valley to obtain $25,000 it is focusing more of its activities on Oro Valley while still supporting the regional Northern Pima activities.
Regional Communities
There were general statements that Marana, Sahuarita, South Tucson, Tucson and Oro Valley all cooperate toward the same regional goals?
