We don't know how many of our readers noticed the amended town council agenda for the May 5 meeting.
It added the following:
Pursuant to A.R.S. section 38-431.03(A)(1) to discuss personnel matters related to appointment of a new Town council member to fill one vacancy with term effective until June 6, 2012
We hope the council will see fit to appoint Dr. Pat Spoerl to the vacancy.
Although we do not know Pat, we have observed her as a council person since her appointment a couple months ago, and are familiar with her prior service to the town.
We hope she will see fit to continue serving the community as a replacement for Ms. Latas, as she has certainly proved to be an articulate, intelligent and independent person.
Replacing Ms. Latas with another woman would also be a wise move (I hope that's not construed as a sexist remark)--and one THIS COUNCIL should make.
Can anyone think of another person, willing and able to serve, with the credentials Pat brings to the table? (Well, maybe Bill Adler would be one.)
Hopefully, this will be an opportunity for Bill Garner, Barry Gillaspie and the outgoing Mayor Loomis & KC Carter, and the newly appointed, Mary Snider,to do something good for the community.
We'll see.

Guess Who Finally Agreed To A Mayoral Debate?
We won't say it was our posting "Five Very Good Reasons To Vote For Mike Zinkin As Oro Valley Mayor," in which we noted that Mike requested on at least three occasions to debate Dr. Hiremath, but, now at almost the "eleventh hour" he agreed.
Oh well! As the saying goes, better late than never.
The fact is that almost everyone that would have voted, will have already voted, but for those still undecided, it may be a good opportunity for you to see why we so enthusiastically support Mike Zinkin.
The particulars still need to be worked out, but the debate is scheduled to take place at the Hilton El Conquistador on Friday, May 14 at 5:30PM.
As we all know, the election at the polls is on May 18 for those without early ballots.

Another Good Reason To Vote For Mike Zinkin As Oro Valley Mayor
It has come to our attention that Dr. Hiremath's Treasurer filed a formal complaint with the Oro Valley Town Attorney concerning Mike Zinkin's inadvertent use of the town seal on one of his mailings.
The Town Attorney responded by stating that any reasonable observer would understand that Mike's mailing would not be confused with an official Oro Valley document, especially since it stated "Paid For By The Commitee To Elect Mike Zinkin." As such, there is no basis for a civil penalty as requested by the Hiremath campaign.
We want all our readers to differentiate the two candidates and their respective campaigns.
Mike Zinkin could have, and probably should have filed an official complaint when Hiremath's advertising made a false claim concerning Mike's position on a property tax. (Mike is against a property tax!)
Additionally, it is questionable whether or not Hiremath violated the Oro Valley sign code while positioning himself and his supporters on the four corners of Oracle rd & Magee holding campaign signs trying to solicit votes.
Mike's supporters told him him about this incident, but Mike only said, he would not make it an issue. Mike determined there are enough IMPORTANT issues that he can raise in differentiating himself from the other candidate.
Just another reason to VOTE FOR MIKE ZINKIN AS ORO VALLEY MAYOR!
