Would You Like To See Grand Canyon University Locate In Oro Valley?

---
Many of you have written us regarding Grand Canyon University and their looking for a campus in Southern Arizona. They are also looking at an alternative of a second campus east of Phoenix.

As of yesterday, Residents of the El Rio section of Tucson are objecting to Grand Canyon University locating on the El Rio golf course. (Source) El Rio is located between Speedway, Grant and Silverbell.

We write on this because it has been rumored that Oro Valley was in the running for the school's new location. We can certainly understand the El Rio's community's opposition to the school. After all, it would substantially change the character of their neighborhood.

Could El Rio's loss be Oro Valley's gain?

Our understanding is that GCU has been looking at a number of locations.  Any discussions they have had with the Town Of Oro Valley are being kept confidential as these are ongoing conversations.  Once again, as with discussions regarding annexations, we, which means you too, are not being informed.

Would you like to see GCU locate in Oro Valley?  If so, where?

If in fact GCU is looking at OV I would consider it a huge plus. Think of the potential. Public access to ball fields, performance center and higher education in our back yard built at no expense to the town.
The City of Tucson never had a chance, their council can't get out of their own way. If the OV council can unite on this and negotiate a solid agreement with no give aways (VESTAR) we could really have something here.

Generally, we don't allow links in our comments, j-Walk. The blog article to which your refers is a indictment of all for profit colleges. We do not agree with the position of this article.

Many -not all- for profit schools have a very poor record regarding student performance and student debt.

Grand Canyon University (GCU) considers homosexuality a sin. So I would say GCU is not as inclusive as many would like. (GCU is a private christian school, so I guess they have the right to discriminate)

Where would GCU build a campus? I believe the El Rio Golf course is apx. 110 ac.

I would say I support GCU in Oro Valley. Depending on location, location and location.

I think a university in Oro Valley would be a tremendous asset. This would be a step toward economic recovery and prosperity.

**Students would discover our beautiful town.
**Perhaps they would open a business and raise their families here.
**Our name would be attached to all the online activity.
