Oro Valley Town Council Will Consider A Hiring Freeze

In an action we believe most, if not all Oro Valley taxpayers will applaud, the Town Council will consider a hiring freeze.

I support the Hiring Freeze and would ask the council to consider a temporary freeze on all spending except for emergency or public safety reasons.

Ms. Coyote...

So we should stop all services to the public except emergency services?

This seems a bit heavy handed. What event(s) triggered this dramatic fiscal response and what event(s) would signal an end to this position?

Thinker,
Sorry I should have been more clear, my idea or support would be behind a freeze on new spending for a while.
As an example, each request for say buying a new computer, etc would be carefully looked at to see if it was really essential Just an example State Governments have done this, why not a local government?
Why can't the town of OV have budget cuts, or across the board cuts? If employees are faced with either keeping their jobs or trying to save the taxpayer's a few dollars , what do you think they would be more likely to do?
Again it is a matter of wants v needs and for me personally when it is not my money I would strongly veer towards need rather then want.

Does OVOT realize the state of our economy? Does Oro Valley go on increasing salaries and adding jobs? Does anybody listen to the news or read the paper and read/hear that this economic recession/depression is not going to be over very soon?
