What may have been the most articulate group of speakers to ever address the OV Council, enthusiastically supported the approval of the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan.
Only ex-council member Fran LaSala spoke in opposition, and in doing so, made an impassioned plea that we not give up our sovereignty.
Speaking for the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan were resident Sandra Hoy-Johnson, Executive Director of The Coalition For Sonoran Desert Protection, Caroyln Campbell, Pima County District 1 Supervisor Ann Day and our representative from District 26, Nancy Young-Wright.
The Council unanimously approved
RESOLUTION NO. (R)08-63 ENDORSING THE SONORAN DESERT CONSERVATION PLAN. (SDCP) AS APPLICABLE TO THE TOWN OF ORO VALLEY AND PROVIDE STAFF DIRECTION REGARDING IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SDCP THROUGH THE CONSERVATION LAND SYSTEM (CLS)
We certainly endorse this vote and applaud this council for taking this definitive action.

Very impressive showing last night by our town council and Ann Day. Passion and intelligence ruled the night.
NYW and other members of Congress should heed the late great Tip O'Neill's advice and realize "all politics is local".
People feel neglected and can't believe Congress is in a five week recess without first coming up with a comprehensive energy package. As long as petty differences exist (Pelosi is following Gingrich's handbook on how to be polarizing instead of uniting) minor supply disruptions such as a busted pipeline in Europe will cause a spike in oil prices.
NYW should take a copy of the video of last night's council meeting back to DC. This video can be shown her fellow Democrats and Republicans as an instructional video on how to resolve issues with a combination of passion and intellegence.
Great move by the Oro Valley town Council.
Maybe there is hope.
