Mayor Hiremath And Appointed Council Member Solomon Seek To Reduce "Transparency"

---
Item 3 on Wednesday's Oro Valley Town Council Agenda will eliminate the synopsis written minutes that are currently being taken at council meetings. Instead, the written minutes will be replaced by action minutes only; plus video/audio of each session.  This would happen for all minutes of all boards and commissions also.

The idea was requested by Mayor Hiremath and Appointed Council Member and 2012 Council Candidate Solomon.

Read the proposal here.

So much for "transparancy".  Sure, let's provide even less information to our citizens and force them to spend hours listening to a recording or watching video.

This will make it much more difficult for any of us to find information.  It is far easier to scan minutes than it is to be forced to listen to a tape or watch an entire video.

That's exactly what Hiremath and Solomon want.

By the way, we also think that this change to action-only minutes would violate the American Disability Act requirements for full access for all, since those who are hearing impaired will not have access to these anything but a "bare bones" list of actions taken.

Do Carlier and Venture West Run Oro Valley?

---
Michael Carlier of Carlier and Company and Venture West now run Oro Valley.

" I hope that you can attend the meeting Venture West has established on January 12th at 6pm in the Council Chambers."

This quote is from an email Carlier sent one of the residents of Neighborhood 7; a resident who opposes a PAD Amendment to allow apartments on parcel 7-i.

Can anyone set up a meeting to use town council chambers?

There is little doubt that the Oro Valley Economic Development Department ("Planning and Zoning Department"), the Mayor, and Council Members Waters, Hornat, Snider and appointed Council Member and now 2012 council candidate Solomon are giving Carlier and Venture West every opportunity to subvert the will of the people.

First. they allow an unprecedented delay in a public hearing before council on Parcel F-1.  Then, they continually question Town Council Rosen about other ways to approve this PAD amendment without a super majority requirement.  At meetings, they allow developers to talk for hours about what is intended to be built when there is no such decision to be made.

Yes. We do not trust this council.

Nor do the people.

Oro Valley Development and Infrastructure Department Wants To Subvert General Plan

---
In 2003, voters overwhelmingly rejected a zoning code called: "Mixed Use".  This would allow apartments on property otherwise zoned. (Also removed from the plan was the "propery tax."  A property tax is what Mayor Hiremath is talking about when he uses the term: "Sustainable Revenue Source.")

The Oro Valley Development and Infrastructure Department has decided that they have the authority to see a rewrite of the General Plan.  They want Oro Valley to have mixed use zoning!

Tomorrow's planning and zoning commission meeting has an agenda item number 5 entitled: "Minor General Plan Amendment to add a Mixed Use land use category to the text of the General Plan document only OV1111-06.

This is not a "Minor" amendment.

This is simply an end-run around the General Plan.  This will subvert the will of the people as voted in 2005.

The job of the Oro Valley Development and Infrastructure Department is to apply the General Plan and the Oro Valley Codes.

It is not their job to recommend changes to the general plan. They have not standing to do so in our community, regardless of what (spurious) logic they contend.

It is up to us, the citizens of Oro Valley, to write and to plan.

"The proposed general plan amendment would add a new land use category which is designed to ] encourage and implement the new urbanist planning concept for a variety or mixture of land uses, integrated within a single development."
