ALERT: Bank Robbery In Rancho Vistoso
The following is from an Oro Valley Police Department press release:

On December 21, 2012 at approximately 5 PM in the 11700 block of North Rancho Vistoso Blvd. a white male walked into the Bank of the West and approached a teller, demanded money and implied he had a weapon. The suspect is described as 5’10 to 6’00 feet weighing approximately 200 lbs wearing a blue ski mask and gloves that were the same color and fabric, Oakley black motor cycle or ski goggles, olive green zippered jacket, blue jeans, and black tennis shoes with white horizontal lines on the heel of the shoe. The suspect also had black duck tape wrapped around his wrist over the jacket and on his upper arms. The suspect left the bank on foot after getting an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was last seen running on Alamo Canyon which is located to the west of the bank.

There is an Oro Valley Police substation in the same plaza as the bank. It's about two doors down from the bank.
So if criminals don't rob places where they know that people are armed...
Were the police actually in the substation at the time? Seems like the Chief wants them to be out in the community - not sitting in the stations. I can't imagine a robber would pick a spot where there would be a confrontation - unless the police were unarmed volunteers??
One could reasonably expect that a criminal may rob this bank. You see most criminale are not smart people and therefore this robber may not have known there is a police substation a couple of doors away. And, as Faveaunts accurately points out, the sub-station is typically populated with CVAP folks.
