The Oro Valley Town Council voted this past Wednesday to self-insure medical expenses. John Musolf previously about this, describing the program to you. There are several issues which John felt were "left open". Apparently, these issues were not of concern to the Council , which voted 6-0 in favor of the plan.
The new program will go into effect for fiscal 2013 to 2014.
We will not know the results of this program and whether or not it was really a good idea until several years thereafter, when we can review the claim history, the insurance supporting it, and the level of employee satisfaction.
