"At its April 18 meeting, the Oro Valley Town Council appointed Greg Caton as town manager. Caton, who had been serving as interim manager for the past ten months, joined the Oro Valley team in November 2010 as the assistant town manager. Prior to his arrival in Oro Valley, he was assistant city manager for the City of Durango, Colorado for eight years. This is his 15th year in public service and municipal government.

“During his ten months as interim town manager, Greg Caton has taken Oro Valley to new heights,” said Mayor Satish Hiremath. “He is thoughtful, innovative, a consensus builder and regarded by regional leaders as someone who will strengthen Southern Arizona as a whole. As mayor, it truly is an honor and privilege to work beside him.”

Those “new heights” to which the mayor refers include a successful partnership with Tucson Water for the delivery of CAP water to Oro Valley residents and the launch of a $3.45M aquatic center expansion, turning the Town’s municipal pool into a competition-level, family-friendly facility. Mr. Caton has also helped the Town save approximately $900,000 through systematic personnel evaluation as staff vacancies occur—an approach he refers to as “right-sizing the organization.”

Mr. Caton added, “It’s been a pleasure working with talented staff and dedicated council members who operate as a cohesive team. We’ve been able to develop partnerships not only within Town boundaries, but across the region. I’m thankful for the opportunity to expand my role with the Town of Oro Valley and continue serving the citizens of this community.”

Greg Caton holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. He is a member of ICMA (International City/County Management Association) and the Arizona chapter, ACMA. He received the Credentialed Manager designation from ICMA, which is the premier municipal government leadership and management organization."
