For those of our readers not aware of the newly implemented "Money Bags Squad," please go to "Upcoming Events" on left column and see the Feb 23 Town Council Study Session, item #4. You may want to attend this meeting.
This group consists of town employees delegated with the chore of "brainstorming" ideas for cutting expenditures and increasing our revenues.
Any problem with that?
Well, certainly some of our readers may question who these employees are, and whether they reside in Oro Valley, or not.
Others may question why the employees are suggesting that among the possible revenue streams, are tax increases, such as sales tax, higher utility taxes, and imposing a property tax.
As blogger "Ann" noted in a recent comment on another post; "Since when do the inmates run the assylum?"
As we all know, it will NOT be a workers group that decides on ANY tax increase, as that jurisdiction remains with the mayor & council.
Discussing the options doesn't bother us. Imposing more taxes on the people of Oro Valley is another issue! That will NOT be good!

Well-run organizations practice continuous improvement. This means that ALL employees are expected to find ways to reduce cost and/or increase quality and service. It is not the job of a committee, it is the job of all employees.
So my reaction to this committee is that it is unnecessary and the management should be setting an expectation that all employees are part of the money bag squad.
You make a good point Chuck.
But you failed to properly qualify to the select few.

After all we certainly wouldn't want any of that riff raff that doesn't live in Oro Valley to be making any good suggestions!! What would they know?
How sad is that????
