The Loop Taste of Chicago Restaurant, located across from Greenock Drive on Oracle Road, has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, reports the Explorer. This would be a financial reorganization of the restaurant. It is not a liquidation.
As owner Mark Rusin notes in the following email, the Loop is open for business:
"You may see an article in the Explorer today saying that The Loop has filed Chapter 11 on December 2. That is a fact and we are now in the process of reorganizing just like other major corporations have done and we should come out of this OK if it all goes as planned.
My accountant, attorneys and me are very optimistic and that is the good news.
It is no secret that we have been suffering the result of a terrible economy over the past years and the lenders have got to take less than was agreed to 4 years ago, when everything was then worth double what it is today.
That is what this is all about.
We remain "business as usual" and look forward to your continued support and us still supporting OVLoop."
There is certainly no guarantee that any financially reorganized business will survive. One thing for sure, though, and that is that Oro Valley does not need yet another empty store front.

This is one of those cases where the citizens should rally behind a great locally owned business and insure that our governments (local and state...ADOT in particular) do everything they can to insure this business does not fail.
The simple request to have a left turn lane into this business location has been denied several times. It is possible, it can be accomplished with a minimum of cost and it can be done so the safety of those wishing to access this property from the north is protected.
If you truly want to support locally owned business, here is your opportunity to do so.

This is NOT about politics. It is about people and our community.
Frequenting a local business is good for Oro Valley. Not only does it keep the money in Oro Valley, it encourages other businesses to want to locate here.
Does anyone really think the problem with this declared Chapter 11 is the lack of a southbound left turn?
As one or more of our astute bloggers pointed out previously, if a restaurant offers good food, good service and fair prices, it will be successful.
It sounds like the left turn issue is more of a red herring than anything else.
It reminds me of the Home Down Delights owner blaming a big tree (that isn't that big) for her business problems that made her put out an illegal sign defying the town ordinance.
Regardless of your thoughts on why this establishment is having a problem, why not stop down for a beer or better yet lunch or dinner and see if we can help keep this restaurant going. The owner is an Oro Valley resident that is community-minded. For my money, I'd like to see a little more effort in retaining existing business as opposed to spending to attract new ones.
Chuck and Zeeman...
Well stated.
Art.....Your position is perfectly clear and not surprising also.

This joint makes awful pizza; it's predecessor, Unos, did too. They deserve to fail. "Great locally owned business"; I'll agree to the statement minus the "great" adjective.
FF...
Do you think the the success or failure of a locally owned business should be based on your personal opinion of the quality of their pizza?
Can't we think a little more in depth than that?
The Loop is involved locally. They sponsor the Oro Valley softball team. They dedicated their ramada area to Don Harris, a terrific guy and Oro Valley softball dude, who passed on last year.
They held a dedication ceremony. Put up a beautify plaque. Had Don's family there.
That's reason enough for me to root for them!
I don't know whether their pizza is good or bad. And I don't care. They got a menu full of other stuff.
I agree with Chuck, Oro Valley does not need this business to fail. We need our home grown businesses to succeed.

I've never been to The Loop because I'm not into the sports bar atmosphere and their menu didn't appeal to me, but I looked at some reviews online to see what other people think.
Only read two, but the first one said they loved the deep dish pizza, so I guess it's a matter of personal preference. The second review said the food was mediocre, the service was awful, and nothing seemed fresh or homemade.
I was there twice when it was Uno's. Didn't care for it either time and never went back, however, the place was packed both times, so I find it hard to believe that the lack of an entrance from SB Oracle is the problem. Why wasn't it a problem back then? That makes be think that the food quality or the serice at Loop are the problem.
That said, I still think ANY business needs easy access in order to draw more customers. I know that I have bypassed many businesses because they were too difficult to get to.
I am hard pressed to recall ANY pizza that I did not like and that includes some strange offerings in Japan and Iraq. That said, we should do our best to support local establishments. God knows the pickings are slim
I've had quite a few pizza's that I didn't like and they were all bought in Tucson or Oro Valley! I'm spoiled coming from New England though. That's some of the best food in the country!
VC....I think your comments point out that every restaurant is going to cater to the taste of some and not to others. Having access for SB traffic isn't THE problem. The problem is the economy which is evidenced by the observation that the place used to be packed.
The ownership has not changed since the place first opened, they just terminated their relationship with the Uno's franchaise. The economy just magnifies the access problem.
To others that have expressed their concern about helping local businesses, THANK YOU.
PS...Mark, the Loop owner, is a LOVE reader.
I think The Loop is a very family friendly place. In fact, it is the only place I've ever taken my children where they have toys and board games for them to play with while we wait that they can then take to our table. Furtermore, everytime we have eaten there for lunch or dinner, we have had great meals with great service. My kids love their kid menu. We parents love everything else including a good margarita. The fish and chips are excellent as are the burgers, tacos, etc. We do need a turn lane for Southbound traffic, there are enough businesses in that area to support it. We have nothing to lose by supporting local and especially, small local businesses. In my 10 years of fundraising for local causes, the majority of the time small businesses step up. Good luck to The Loop and every other small business trying to make a go of it in Oro Valley. Remember, their tax dollars help all of us and our children. Genee Stazzone, MASpEd local realtor
