In his Explorer editorial, Dave Perry, editor & publisher takes Bill Garner, Barry Gillaspie & Salette Latas to task for their absence at Loomis's State of The Town Speech to an audience comprised to a great extent of the business community.
Far be it for me to be a spokesperson for Bill, Barry & Salette, but I commend them to the highest degree for not attending this sham.
Loomis is so damn vindictive, he couldn't bring himself to even acknowledge the eighteen years of dedicated service to the community by David Andrews. Why? Because Loomis had just orchestrated the FIRING of David for "issues." (Another sham, of larger proportion.)
I, and I believe thousands of our fellow citizens congratulate the ONLY three Council Members of the seven that have and display any integrity.
Dave Perry would do himself a favor if he read our blog. Perhaps then he would understand why Bill, Barry & Salette refused to be part of that charade.
Perry writes; "State of the Town is the place to demonstrate civility and respect."
Loomis can NOT demand respect! He must EARN respect! David Andrews earned the respect of the employees & the the residents.
Loomis is a disgrace and he deserves NO respect from anyone with any sense of decency.
Read what Mr. Perry has to say.

The 'State of The Town' - a hard reach for most citizens - timewise and moneywise; so, it's a show for the town's 'elite' and a platform for the Mayor to gloss reality. It (sic) "is the place to demonstrate civility and respect". So, one lunch a year, to a limited audience, this is the time and place to demonstrate respect? What about civility and respect over the rest of time? Oh, I guess that doesn't count; that's politics as usual; the Lunch - that's special.
C'mon, Dave Perry, Councilpersons Latas, Gillaspie, and Garner didn't want to give credence to a charade after the Butcher of Oro Valley killed the Lion; do you?
Zev,
"..give credence to the charade..."
couldn't agree more with you here, Zev.
While Perry is correct in saying that two sides need to comprimise to reach terms that are mutually agreeable for all, Loomis in his dictatorial style showed NO concern about due proces, a basic American right, no did he show respect for Andrews nor the Councilpeople when he manipulated a vote for some "vague, unexplained reason" which is costing taxpayers lots of money in an economic crisis! As Mayor he might have role modeled effective leadership instead of his "my way or the highway" style.
Loomis thumbs his nose at voters and council who advocate for constituents with his, "So wha'dya gonna do about it?"
Mr. Perry, not participating in the charade is something Garner, Gillaspie and Latas could do and did. I applaud their boycott!
It appeared to me that Abbott had one thing in mind and that was to disrupt and cloud a previously approved budget item relative to a STUDY as to whether or not it was feasible for Oro Valley to take over local animal control responsibility from the County. Abbott seemed to pick on this issue as a means to undermine Council Member Latas. Her attempt was mired in typical Abbott fashion - her 'presentation' muddled, boring, and ENDLESSLY
unprepared. Abbott has shown a propensity for her rambling meanderings in the past. I guess I didn't notice her erratic mumblings too much over time past as her attendance record didn't allow for it.
Carter looked ashen, ghostly; it was obvious by his bully pulpit outbursts that the man is no longer capable of carrying his position in a responsible manner and is groping (an appropriate word for him?) to be heard. His booming, accusatory lashing
out is proof, for me, that the man needs a 'reality check', his anger an indication that he has 'lost it'!
Oops, my blog should have appeared in the post "Art reminds LACKees ..."(2 posts above) - sorry.
