What the Star did not have were any photos of the burnt-out fire station. Thanks to a concerned reader, we are going to provide you with photos.
Our first picture shows the damage done by the fire:
In our second photo, below, it appears that the GRFD firemen are not too concerned with their loss. How do we know? I guess the smiley happy faces tell the story.
Why, after all, should they be concerned? They're not going pay to fix the station. Between the presumed insurance coverage and the us, the taxpayers, this might be no more than a minor inconvenience... resulting in a brand new fire station.
Wish we all had it that good!

You just find any little thing you can to nit pick on. Nevermind the fact that these firfighters should be happy to be alive after they almost died in the fire.
I hope it makes you feel better though trying to see the dark side in everything you look at and pass on your cynicism to your followers.
Sorry that you see it that way. Perhaps you did not read the story.
No one was hurt. No one was threatened. No one "almost died" in the fire.
The point is: I have never seen anyone outside of their burnt our home, smiling. It just doesn't work that way.
In my opinion, it is strange that a fire department who has little to do most of the time can not even provide for its own fire prevention.
Where you there to hear the conversation that caused the fireman to smile?
Give us a break!!!
This fire illustrates that fire does not discriminate and can quickly get out of hand.
This is not the first fire station to burn down and will not be the last unless they are all sprinklered.
I was told by a fire chief in Rhode Island that RI has the toughest fire codes in the nation. Arizona should look into instituting the same codes here. I am amazed at the laxity of fire codes in this state...a state with dry air, months at a time without rain, dry vegetation, and high winds. Fire spreads very easily in those conditions, yet in this state developers are allowed to build houses so close together that you can look outside your window and spit to your neighbor's house.
I've also been inside public buildings in Tucson that are a major fire trap. So I'm not surprised that there was a fire at the fire station! That about sums up the pitiful AZ fire code.
I just read the article and apparently they didn't even have adequately placed smoke detectors. How can you work in a field that is hypervigilant about preventing fires and not even have adequately placed smoke detectors in your own facility?
Of interest, is that when I moved here in 2003, I contacted the fire dept. to inquire about the rules for smoke detectors in Arizona. I was told that they were not required at all.
Honestly, whose running this state? Larry, Daryl, and Daryl? You'll have to be a Newhart fan to get that joke.
Note to our readers. I removed the above comment from Don Cox, not because he had nasty, arrogant comments about Dick (Zee Man) and me, but for one simple reason.
Cox has been warned on a number of occasions not to make any reference to where Dick may or may not be at the present time. As usual, Cox does not heed prudent advice, and not only saw fit to mention Dick's whereabouts, but to use his last name.
Cox can say what he wants, but not on this blog! Hopefully, this time he'll understand that!
Cox is too damn stupid to just delete the reference to Dick's whereabouts. As such, I am posting his comment with all the nastiness for all to read and judge.
My only "editing" was deleting the one sentence he was too stupid to do on his own.
I also saw fit to leave it's a "lie" comment. Our readers can decide who is the liar.

There are few sure things in life.
But one of them is that Art Segal and Dick Furash are always capable of making ignorant, callous and factless statements. Their hatred for Golder Ranch Fire Department has led to the following:

"No one was hurt. No one was threatened. No one "almost died" in the fire." It sounds like he is disappointed.
An apparent electrical fire breaks out in a residence, that's what a fire house is to the firefighters on duty, in the middle of the night when all are sleeping, and Furash makes the assessment that no one was "threatened". If by chance the Captain didn't wake up all may have perished.
Then the 'all knowing' Segal makes the following comment:

Did it ever occur to you Art that they might be happy that they survived this potential disaster. Probably not. You have no idea what the conversation was at the time the picture was taken but you are so hateful that you will translate it into your description.
In my opinion, both of you are a disgrace to this community.

Art...You could have deleted the it yourself in the first place if you found to to be inappropriate. But you chose to once again take the low road (lie) and take your best shot. You realized that would not work.
Your 'passion' for first amendment rights certainly does not extend to those who are willing to step up to the plate and be critical of your oft misinformed and slanted commentary.
Minor correction... I failed to delete the word "the" in the first paragraph and I typoed "it" to "to".
Cox--- Not surprise, but once again you make a statement with no basis of fact.
You were also told previously told that as blogmaster, I have two options:
1) I can leave comments as written
2) I can delete comments as I see fit.
I can NOT edit any comment after it is posted.
Hopefully, now, you fully understand the rules of this blog.
I am a little taken back by the posting about the burned out fire station. The remarks on the original post seem to be a bit callous. Perhaps the fireman sees the irony of a fire station catching on fire.
Perhaps the fireman who is smiling wasn't even on the shift when the fire started and thinks the situation is funny! My point is, who knows? Who knows why the fireman is smiling? Thank goodness no one was hurt and we can all learn a lesson about ensuring that our smoke detectors are in good working order

You are quite right in that the picture can be interpreted any way one wishes. And by no means is there any "joy" in this situation for anyone.
And, James, I am a "big fan" of first responders. I actually know quite a few first responders. The guys and gals I know are top flight! They are ready to protect us all.
The problem is that the people at this fire station didn't prevent their own fire station from burning down.
This should bother all of us.
Sometimes no matter the precautions you take, crap happens. How were they supposed to know that there was an electrical fault that would cause a fire to occur in their station? One would like to think that you can prevent anything bad from happening, but you can't.
Ohh and did the photographer say "cheese" before snapping the photo setting up the firemen in the picture? I wouldn't be surprised.
Try as you might you cannot always prevent a fire from starting. i.e. an electrical equipment malfunction. The only way to truly protect loss of life and property is with fire sprinklers. The Fire District had put the project out to bid for installation of a fire sprinkler system. Just a little too late.
Art....It would appear that you got your butt kicked on this one. Would you like to issue an apology to GRFD and the intelligent folks who have participated?
