Oro Valley Council Approves Allowing MVFD Annexation

Thanks to the yeoman efforts of our friend Phil Richardson, and the acceptance by the Mountain Vista & Golder Ranch Fire Districts, the OV Council approved MVFD's attempt to annex the areas from Hardy Road south to Suffolk Hills.

Council Member Bill Garner who worked diligently behind the scene to get this motion to the Council and approved noted---"If you're against this motion, you are against the people."

Only Council Member Al Kunisch thought this would be a "step backwards.'' Obviously, Mr. Kunisch saw fit to be against the people.

Congrats to the council, especially Bill Garner, GRFD Chief John Fink & his Board, Chairman of MVFD Mike Treece & his Board for doing what is in the best interests of the citizens of our town.

Your comments about Bill Garner are right on! Bill not only represents the folks who elected him, but he is bright, forthright, articulate and greatly admired and hasn't disappointed the people who elected him!

We're proud of you, Bill!!

Did I miss something? Was there a vote by the people for what the people wanted?

No Suija---there was no vote by the people. There was only more than 600 petitions that Phil Richardson single handily solicited, and received in a few weeks time.

That was a lot more a of "citizen statement" than when a previous Town Council unilaterally decided that there should be only one fire service in Oro Valley which led to thousands of citizens getting a substantial fire service rate increase---that is still ongoing.

Then I applaud Phil Richardson.
