Hallelujah! There are still signs of intellegence in OV!
Congrats to Salette & Bill, you really deserve it!
Now let's keep Mr. Parrish on the defensive, explaining all that developer money.
And Mr. Gillaspie, please take note that the voters don't want a council member who favors the developers!
HOWLING WITH DELIGHT. THIS IS BETTER THEN A FULL MOON!!!!!!
PAWS UP TO SALETTE & BILL
Voters want Councilman who respect and speak for their constituents, who are fiscally responsibile, who work diligently and with integrity...Incumbents, do you now understand how violated and ignored OV citizens feel by your decisions?
Great job, Salette and Bill!
March 11, 2008 will go down in history!
SUPERB! Congratulations to Bill and Salette, two very deserving, aware, and honorable people. And also, to all those who put in those efforts that contributed to this outcome, your participation was most commendable. To Art -super, super, super - we all thank you for your wisdom, commitment, and guidance.
I wanted to post to personally thank all those bloggers who voted as well as to thank Art for all of his efforts. This is history in the making, as not one but two candidates have won in the primary. This speaks volumes for the change that the citizens desire for Oro Valley Town Government. Democracy is alive and well in Oro Valley and change is coming in June 2008. Thanks again to all my supporters as I look forward to serving the citizens of Oro Valley in the near future.
Congratulations Salette and Bill.
And, Dear Bloggers, as Curly-Jim notes, there is more to be done.
Zev, Bill, Zee-man,as you three alluded to,Art, your media blitz made a huge impact on the thinking of voters. Thank you for starting it, weathering your own persecution about free speech and speaking for independent thinkers here in OV.
Thank you for being the voice of the people.
It was a wonderful outcome! We are thrilled! Thanks Art and all the "boots on the ground"! Thanks to Bill and Salette for caring about citizens here and working so hard!
There are many issues ahead. Come June when we may have a majority of folks on Council who care about citizens perhaps the Council can rectify one of the recent problems dumped on Neighborhood Two:
Those homeowners have had their zoning switched around so many times they have no security for their investments. Since an earlier Town Council created this problem, these folks need help from our new Council members. This mess occurred in 1994, long before Prop. 207, so here's a challenge for our new Council. We know they'll be responsive to the homeowners and citizens for a change!
Bill and Salette: Thank you AGAIN!
Hooray! What wonderful news! Now I know that we have some hope and I won't have to throw in the towel and move to Rio Rico!
Let's keep up the momentum for the run-off in May!
Congrats to Salette and Bill!
Thanks Art for giving us the opportunity to voice our concerns and opinions.. no matter how controversial they may have been, it helped turn around the direction of our council and the future of Oro Valley!
To Ms. Dankwerth, who came in last...this is what happens when you can't do the math.
You thought $360,000 was a "miniscule amount" and apparently you thought that the 3,500 people who signed the OV1st pledge was also a miniscule amount since you completely ignored their wishes. And so you came in dead last with only 3021 votes while Salette and Bill received over 5,000 votes each.
I'll bet that's some math you can actually understand!
I too would like to add my congradulations to Bill and Salette.
I truly hope that these two fine people will go a great job representing ALL of the Oro Valley voters and not simply the 21% who elected them.
Let me correct my typo....will do a great job.....
Thinker,
Since certain council members and the Mayor represent only themselves, if Bill and Salette represented only those who voted for them, well, that would still be an improvement, don't you think?
Which is better...representing NONE of the people who voted for you, but choosing instead to represent out of town developers, or representing ALL of the people who voted for you?
I am certain that Salette and Bill
will strive to represent all Oro Valley voters . But of course we know they will represent the interests of citizens, not the interests of developers .
Why would you even make such a strange comment about the percentage of voters who elected them.
So you are blaming candidates because only a small % of people voted.
Really Thinker that is very petty.
you should be concerned
about the fact that Terry Parish
seems to be collecting almost all his donations from developers.
So how does he represent the citizens?
OVOT,
Salette Latas was elected by over 66% of the voters who care enough to vote; Bill Garner by over 62%. There's a word for that in politics. It's called a landslide.
Approximately 33% of all eligible voters sent in ballots. So out of almost 8,600 ballots, close to 5,800
people voted for Salette and close to
5,400 voted for Bill.
Overwhelming it is. Also clearly shows that people in OV are not happy
with most on the council
I also think that the many did not vote because they felt it did not matter because in the past, it really did not.
We just got council members who ignored us.
Oro Valley Objective Thinker,
Whom would you represent, if you were to run AGAIN?
Let's go back to my comments some time ago about the vote of the people in favor of the Vestar EDA. I made the comment that most of the people voted in favor of the EDA. Several of you jumped on me about that comment stating that only a small percentage of the people voted. I am simply using YOUR same logic. As usual you want to have it both ways. 21% of the registereed voters cast a ballot in favor of Salette and a slightly lesser number for Bill. I would not refer to that as a landslide of the population.
And Ferlin.....I would represent and listen to all of the voters and I hope the newly elected Councilpersons would do the same.
Thinker,
Let's see if I have this straight.
When Vestar got 58% of the vote (of those who voted, NOT 58% of all the registered voters) Vestar called this "overwhelming support" and you clearly agree.
But when Salette and Bill got 66% and 62% of the vote (of those who voted) suddenly you decide to do some "fuzzy math" and you determine that this is a small amount because it represents only 21% of registered voters.
So when it came to Vestar, you decided to look at the percentage of votes OF ONLY THOSE WHO VOTED so the percentage would be a higher number, but for Bill and Salette, you decided to look at the percentage of votes based on the NUMBER OF REGISTERED VOTERS so the percentage would be a lower number.
So, Thinker, apparently YOU are the one who is trying to have it both ways!
Objective Thinker,
Your thoughts define pretzel logic. I really have tried to give you the benefit of doubt but your postings make no sense.
It would be nice to have some opposing viewpoints from a truly objective thinker.
There are some other differences between this campaign and the Vestar subsidy.
Vestar sent out 19 full-color mailers, plus a DVD. They won their campaign because of that massive expenditure worked to convince people that they would be getting an upscale, unique mall.
Many of those people who voted for the subsidy now realize they were had.
Some of them have lost faith in the system and didn't bother to vote this time.
Some of them have become wary of a barrage of mailers from Phoenix, and decided not to vote for Terry Parish.
But thousands decided to vote for change in Oro Valley and voted for Salette and Bill.
No matter how some try to spin this, it was a landslide and a mandate.
Notice how Thinker has not responded to the last few posts. He always conveniently disappears whenever we supply him with the FACTS!
