The Arizona Star took an editorial position on our "LOVE" issue with Oro Valley.
The Star's View---- "Town was wrong to ask blogger to register as political committee; actions only attracted attention to site."
We are very grateful for the Star taking up our cause. Allow me to make a couple of comments.
I was not "ASKED" to register as a political committee. I was told I "MUST" register.
In the context of the editorial, two incumbents seeking re-election; Terry Parish & Helen Dankwerth both said they didn't know about the situation until the Town's Attorney's Office told the council it was seeking an outside opinion as to whether I was required to register.
This sounds good, but it is "tail wagging." Parish & Dankwerth either show their ineptitude of what is going on in Town Hall, or it verifies what we say.
As of the hiring of Mr. Rosen the new Town Attorney's predecessor in 2006, Oro Valley's legal department reports to the Town Council. Why then did the attorney's see fit to have the town spend taxpayer's money on an outside law firm's opinion----and who, if anyone gave this authorization?
I would be extremely surprised if the more than capable Town Attorney's Office acted unilaterally on first attempting to force me to form a political committee; and then to determine another opinion was required.
Hopefully, the Star can get these answers---especially since the Town has never even told me they won't pursue the issue. It wasn't until this past Wed. Council meeting that Parish saw fit to be the "Town's Spokesperson" in responding to an irate citizen taking up my cause, that I heard their position.
And they wonder why I support Latas & Garner! Oro Valley needs a breadth of fresh air!!!

Art,
I hope you can get some answers to your questions.
My gut tells me that the town attorney was directed to take action
by a few on the council.
Maybe the council and town staff need a course in the Constitution .
It is not acceptable that our town officials even think about tampering with free speech. Why do they even think about it?
Did they take an oath when they took office? Maybe they thought they were swearing at us!!
Parish and Dankworth are certainly the masters of deception. After my opening statement at the council meeting on Wednesday, Mr. Parish felt compelled to answer in a manner which implied that I was accusing the council itself of initiating the action against Art; in fact, I was very careful to avoid doing so. Unfortunately, either Mr. Parish can't seem to get things straight or wilfully
toys with reality in order to further his own agenda.
As to Mrs. Dankwerth, most recently she bragged as to how she was part of the faction which voted down issuing further Economic Development Agreements (to RETAIL ENTITIES ONLY).
While she was one of the councilpersons that finally did vote against the further granting of these abominations, during the discussion she was one of the most vocal in expressing concerns over it's discontinuance, questioning as to whether or not this might affect [a pro shop within a golf course], hmmm. So, it appears that she approved this measure with some fervant reluctance; now she avidly takes credit for it.
SPIN, LIES, AND SELF-ADULATION THESE TWO!
Oh, and I forgot to mention - we now have it, IN WRITING, on good authority by a former member of the Planning and Zoning Commission (who comments on this blog site under the moniker 'Oro Valley Objective Thinker'), in a statement published by him under the topic "Is Terry Parish Worthy of Your Vote?", that....."the Mayor was upset.....His position was that the P&Z should reflect the thinking of the Council....and was later criticized for that position by the Explorer in an editorial". So, does a leopard change it's spots? OVOT reveals the extent of the thirst for control that should lead our rational community to understand that apparantly nothing happens here without the advice and consent of the powers at large.
