SCR 1009 was introduced yesterday. Also known as No Taxpayer Money for Lobbyists, would give voters in November the opportunity to prohibit governments and government agencies from using taxpayer money to lobby the Legislature. SCR 1009 would allow governments and government agencies to continue providing information to legislative committees, but they would not be allowed to spend our money to hire lobbyists. I dislike (government) paid contract lobbyists as much as the next guy but what is going to keep the government from hiring lobbyists as employees?
They could hire someone on the sly and then call him (or her) a Legislative Information Officer.
That being said, if Ron Gould thinks it is a good idea I say go get'em!
