Question Response: Most Say NO on Business Incentives

On November 18, we asked: "If Sanofi-Aventis asks for any type of tax abatement or financial assistance, do you believe this town council should give it, or do believe it is not necessary to give anything other than "a great place to live, work and create?""

Your responses had a general consensus: Just Say No-Oro Valley should not offer development incentives of any kind to any kind of business. Your logic: If we build a community of excellence, business will follow.

Oro Valley has already given Sanofi and its predecessors a great place to live, work, and play for 20 years. Still, only a small percentage of their employees live in Oro Valley.

So Sanofi decides to move to nicer digs, and TREO gives them some goodies for doing so. Why should the Town pile on more bennies?

This is not about business attraction. Sanofi is already here. It's not about retention. They've already decided to stay. It's not about jobs. As mentioned, they only provide a minority of their jobs to Oro Valley residents.
