Was Vice Mayor Dankwerth Soliciting 3rd Graders Proper?

On July 25, 2007, the Oro Valley Town Council held a Study Session on The Naranja Town Site---Discussion of General Obligation Bond Election Process. Mayor Paul "Teflon Man" Loomis introduced Mark Reader and Josh Ormiston of Stone and Youngberg, the Town’s financial advisors, and Keith Hoskins of the law firm Gust Rosenfeld to serve as bond counsel.

Mr. Hoskins stated that the Town and Town employees could not promote or advertise the project in any way to sway the voters. The use of Town resources was also prohibited.

The "Teflon Man" requested clarification for elected officials. Mr. Hoskins informed the Council that they can discuss the item factually. However, privately and without Town resources, they may state where they stand on the bond issue. Mayor Loomis added that they could hurt the outcome of the election if they were not careful.

It seems that Vice Mayor Helen "The Tax" Dankwerth was recently invited as a guest at the Painted Sky Elementary School to listen to the children perform. While there, "Double D" (Disengenuous Dankwerth) took the opportunity to address the "little ones" in her capacity as Vice Mayor.

We must ask if it was proper for Dankwerth soliciting 3rd graders to go home and tell their parents if they don't vote for the Naranja Park, there may not be a park for various activities such as skateboarding and soccer fields. Oh... the poor children!

Might the Vice Mayor have forgotten the words of attorney Keith Hoskins who told the council"that the Town could not promote or advertise the project in any way to sway the voters?"

Or... is this just another example of Dankwerth just doing as she sees fit with total disregard to anything but her own agenda?

If this is true, not surprising.
Hopefully the parents who vote will remember that Helen Dankwerth also publicly told us to vote Yes to giving Vestar a 23.2 million incentive in turn for a spectacular shopping mall.
