If Only Oro Valley Had This Type Of Leadership!

We came across an example of what a commuity can do when its citizens and town government work together against WalMart. In this case its Crofton, Md. Wal-Mart dropped its plan to build a 121,000-square-foot Supercenter there.

"...I am not going to support any development if the infrastructure is not built in advance to service that project," said John R. Leopold, County Executive.

Now that's leadership!

Oro Valley has the "groundswell" of community opposition to WalMart. Unfortunately, Mayor Loomis and Town Council haven't joined in.

And it's hard for us to figure out why Loomis and Council won't join with the many who oppose WalMart. Don't they feel at least betrayed by Vestar? We were all told, including town government, that the Oro Valley Markeplace would be a unique shopping experience. WalMart and many of the other proposed tenants of the Oro Valley Marketplace are not "unique" shopping experiences. Our town government's behavior in terms of lack of action is puzzling. It raises questions about who our governemnt leaders thinks they work for!

I just moved to Oro Valley from Maryland and believe me when I tell you Crofton is nowhere near as nice or as beautiful as Oro Valley.
It stuns me to see the political process at work in Oro Valley. I've never witnessed such indifference and downright deception from the "leaders" of a community.
Thankfully the citizens will not have to tolerate their behavior too much longer as the next elections will sweep them out of office. It is too bad we won't be able to sweep the crime generated from the new Wal-Mart out with them.

Welcome to Oro Valley, Bill. Glad to see you joining the action. Yes, it is time to clean house. That's why we're here!!

The standard canned phrase of this mayor and council is "Our hands are tied!" or...."It's a done deal!" With this lack of leadership, lack of integrity and lack of common sense, we're in for some tough times in this town of excellence....????
