Why none other than the recently departed Oro Valley Economic Development Administrator, Jeff Weir. And where did we find him? In Kingman, of course: The next “victim” on Vestar’s radar.
Last week, LOVE found Wolfswinkel lurking around up there together with Vestar. And now, with the able assistance of a conscientious reader, we find Weir, Kingman's Economic Development Administrator, advocating an economic development agreement for Vestar! Honest. We're not making this up!
Seems that what Weir did "TO" Oro Valley, he is now attempting to do "TO" Kingman. Guess Weir is a "one trick pony"!
But, there's a difference between Oro Valley and Kingman. Kingman's Mayor, Les Bryam is a leader!! He has consistently opposed the proposed Weir deal with Vestar. "We will not be competing against anybody but ourselves," he said. Mayor Byram's logic? "While it's likely that retail options at Kingman Crossing will draw people off Stockton Hill Road, it won't be of any use to these businesses or the total sales taxes netted if they're just drawing the same dollars from other stores." Sound familiar? Don’t you just love it when a town leader actually uses his brain to make decisions on behalf on the people?
Here are two recent articles from the Kingman Miner Newspaper.
April 28, 2007: Now Your Kids Can Stay In Kingman
“Economic Development Director Jeff Weir was hired out of Oro Valley in 2006 to bring high-paying jobs to Kingman, and he's spent much of the last year working on a strategic plan outlining the "hopes and aspirations" Kingman should pursue for the future.”
Wal-Mart does not bring high paying jobs, Jeff.
April 18, 2007: Incentive suggested for Vestar
“Weir gave a presentation on the required policies the city would have to adopt if it were to enter into an incentive agreement with a private developer”
What policies, Jeff. Policies that force voters to take you to court to have a say in your grandiose plans?
Enjoy the reading. We hope that Kingman has a better fate than Oro Valley.

Really enjoy the LOVE blog. Good Job!
Hopefully the town of Kingman will benefit from the mistakes that were made in Oro Valley.
I have sworn affidavits from the owners of two Oro Valley businesses that state that Jeff Weir proposed to them that if they would sign a petition asking that their businesses be annexed by Oro Valley that they would not have to collect or report the Oro Valley portion of the then applicable sales tax. I have often wondered over the past four years how much more of that could have been going on.
