Developers Beat Residents: 126-0

Seven unanimous votes have amended the 2016 General Plan
The current Oro Valley Town Council has amended the General Plan 7 times.

That makes seven General Plan Amendments in less than 18 months after the voters approved the General Plan. In fact, the first two of these amendments came before the State Election Commission approved the General Plan citizen vote.

11 unanimous votes have amended Oro Valley zoning codes
The current Oro Valley council has changed zoning codes at least 11 times since taking power 18 months ago.

7-0 every time
This week we received a press release that introduced a video (right) that showed some of these unanimous votes. (Source: Take Back Oro Valley)

We were astounded seeing just how automatic these unanimous votes have been.

This council only says no to the residents
Most of these amendments and zoning changes have been contested by residents. Each resident argument has been rejected 7-0. Not even one council member has supported a resident position. Is it possible that the residents are never right?

Hiremath and Hornat joke about a December amendment vote
In one of the votes documented in the video, you can hear Council Member Hornat ask: "Should I say 'no' just so it’s not 7-0?" Mayor Hiremath chuckled. This was in regards to one of the three general plan amendments approved last December.

Our take
Perhaps general plan amendments are a joke to Mayor Hiremath and Council Member Hornat. Perhaps they are joke to the entire council.

Perhaps the 2016 Your Voice Our Future General Plan, a plan that the town invested several years creating, at a cost of more than $300,000, is simply a joke to them.

It is not a joke, however, to many of those who read LOVE. As one commenter noted: "These unanimous votes on development projects are changing the desirable, small town character of Oro Valley."

In our opinion, these unanimous votes to change the 2016 General Plan demonstrate that not one of the seven council members thinks that "Your Voice" matters.
