Located in Oro Valley is the hub for a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization called H.E.A.R.T.S, Inc. (Helping Every Animal Receive Treatment and Shelter.) The purpose of the organization is to "provide funding for animal welfare organizations and individuals who provide food, shelter, spay/neuter services, medical care and other services to animals in Pima County, Arizona, throughout the year."
The organization is always appreciative of monetary donations, but now you can feel good donating financially without it costing you a penny. Well, kind of.
You can help H.E.A.R.T.S. by registering your credit/debit cards with eScrip so a percentage of your purchases will be donated to H.E.A.R.T.S. This legitimate program allows online stores, restaurants and merchants the opportunity to participate in order to benefit local charities. When you register with eScrip, you can review a list of participating vendors. A quick look at just the 52 participating restaurants include El Charro and Magpies Pizza on Oracle Rd. and The Thunder Canyon Brewery at Foothills Mall.
The benefit of eScrip is that a percentage of the purchases that you would normally make, are donated to H.E.A.R.T.S. In other words, you just shop and dine as you would and a portion of your bill will be donated to H.E.A.R.T.S at no extra cost to you. It's just that simple and 100% free (outside of your regular expenses for shopping or dining out).
How could you not get involved?
Here's an example of how donations help furry friends in the area. In January, "H.E.A.R.T.S. was contacted about a stray cat that had been taken in but was in need of extensive dental work. They are happy to report that the dental work has been completed, and Rosie the cat is now happy and healthy. Thanks to her new "Mom" for giving her a loving home."
To register your credit/debit cards with eScrip for the purposes of donating to HEARTS, Inc., you can go to the website
and sign up. You can also register up to three organizations at a time so keep in mind our public schools are a great place to donate but the website also allows you to do a search to find organizations of your choosing.
As an indication of just how successful this program is, Green Valley, Arizona,"Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers," are currently featured on eScrip's website as receiving between $25,000 and $60,000 in 2013. What a simple way to contribute to society!
Who's up for it?
