On January 15th at 3:00 pm, Oro Valley residents opposed to the Oro Valley Town Council’s decision to acquire the El Conquistador Country Club, Golf and Tennis facilities, will announce the number of referendum signatures obtained at a volunteer celebration at Oro Valley Library’s Learning Tree.

Tee’d Off Over Tax Hike (TOOTHINOV.ORG) has been collecting signatures since December 20th, following the Oro Valley Town Council’s 4-3 vote to purchase the Hilton El Conquistador Country Club, Golf and Tennis facilities for the purpose of creating a community center. The acquisition, met with great opposition from residents, would mean a sales tax increase for Oro Valley.

Shirl Lamonna, who is heading up the referendum said, “We are very excited to announce the number of signatures we will be submitting to the Town Clerk for verification and confident this will end up going to a vote of the people”. Lamonna went on to say, “The response from the community was overwhelming yet the result is the effort of our almost 50 volunteers who dedicated time over the holidays to accomplish this goal”.
