State sales tax election is subject of TV debate
“Arizona Sales Tax: Fix or Folly?” is the title of a public debate on the proposal that is being put to voters in a special election May 18. The debate, being organized by Arizona Public Media, will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 11 in the Stevie Eller Dance Theater, 1713 E. University Blvd. on the University of Arizona campus.
It will be televised live on KUAT-TV’s on PBS World, which is digital channel 27.3 and available on Cox cable channel 83 and Comcast channel 203.
The debate will feature representatives from the opposing campaigns, “Yes on 100” and “Ax the Tax.” Organizers are asking that questions for the panelists be submitted in advance via e-mail to questions@AZpublicmedia.org. For those wishing to attend the debate in person, doors will be open at 5:30 p.m. and seating will be on a first-come, first served basis.
The ballot proposition being put to voters would raise the state sales tax from 5.6 percent to 6.6 percent until May 31, 2013.
