Don't look for the July 4th GOVAC concert anywhere near Oro Valley. In its latest move away from our community, GOVAC plans on holding this event at Rillito Park Racetrack.
Perhaps, a name change to "Greater Tucson Arts Council" would be more appropriate.
Earlier this week an OV subcommittee recommended we donate $61,930 to GOVAC. Although this was less than recent years, it's still money coming from ORO VALLEY TAXPAYERS.
Here's the article from the May 7 Az Star.

GOVAC and it's 'ties' to Oro Valley should be rethunk. Oro Valley allows this so-called arts council to include our Town's name in it's meanderings - concerts at La Encantada, a 4th of July celebration in Tucson, and whatever else they do (what do they do for Oro Valley? I just can't seem to put my finger on it). I was at a couple of Town meetings at which GOVAC was trying to justify asking for certain sums of money from the Town for MORE money in order to put on a 4th of July event for which the monies should have already been included and stashed in their fiscal year budget; their stuttering, sputtering presentations for additional funds were ineptly pathetic at best. Now, I ask, how is it that they can put on a 4th of July celebration at Rillito Park Racetrack without more funding from OV, but couldn't do it here in Oro Valley, part of their name plate, in a same or similar manner? It is of my opinion that GOVAC as it is currently structured is of no value to the TOV. This organization needs to be stripped of it's OV nameplate, stripped of any and all donations from the Town of Oro Valley, and should be replaced with an organization wholly beholden to TOV! There is one hell of a lot of benefit that can be gained by an 'arts organization' for a municipality and GOVAC is NOT and will NEVER be able to accomplish it - a new organization, a new name, and a new direction is sorely needed!
I've gotten invitations to two fundraisers for GOVAC recently. One was at Westward Look (not in Oro Valley) and the other was at the Ritz (not in Oro Valley).
Whatever happened to them putting on the 4th of July event in the Wal-Mart parking lot? Did Wal-Mart and/or Vestar pull their support? Why don't they cry about that to the media the way they cry about OV not giving them an extra $25k out of turn?
As I questioned, OV Mom, [of what benefit are they to Oro Valley]?
