Our Readers Responded With An Overwhelming "NO" On Naranja Bond Issue

We certainly don't pretend that 177 responses are an accurate assessment of how ALL Oro Valley voters feel about the Naranja Bond issue, but when 70% of any group is against anything, that does make some sort of statement.

I will say this about our poll. Five individuals wrote us supporting the park. One senior citizen indicated he is willing to pay for this park for future generations. One woman wrote and asked that as a result of our position, saying we are against the taxing of the citizens for a park that many of us do not want, do not need, will not use, and in some cases, can not afford, she demanded I remove her from our mailing list---which I did.

She saw fit to write the following tidbit.
"Are you INSANE? Actually, I believe you are, so I've answered the question for myself. Take me off this mailing list immediately, you Freak. Me and my family want no part of it."

We received many more emails and/or text messages agreeing with us.

The bottom line is this: Come Nov. 8 the voters of Oro Valley will decide this issue. If nothing else, we'll see what kind of barometer our readers are. Although we wouldn't expect a 70% rejection, it is our belief this issue will not pass.
We'll see.

Thanks to all those that took the time to express their opinion.

Loved the e-mail from the woman who asked to be removed from the mailing list. The name-calling (immature) and poor grammatical skills (uneducated) just strengthen my argument that these are the type of people who will frequent this park and will ruin it for the decent people and the children from good families who would otherwise enjoy it.

I wonder which group she falls into...drug dealer, drug user, graffiti artist, punk, vandal...

Not sure what I think about the "women" who wrote that email.
What I do think is absolutely incredible is the that you got 177 responses to the poll.
That is really interesting to me as I recall that the town only surveyed approximately 400 people for a survey about town services, quality of life, etc. .
And the town of OV probably paid too much money for the survey

Art, you could do some survey's on here for the town and save us some
money.

In today's Az Star under the heading "Broken Promises" on page A4 it is noted that in 2004 voters approved $3,000,000 to develop the Naranja Town site. The money was spent on other cultural preservation projects in Oro Valley. The Town is now asking voters for a $48,000,000 to develop the project.
My question is what happen to the $3,000,000?

Also, I'm curious as to how many influential town employees actually live in OV. Obviously those who don't live here have -0- at stakes in this game. I sure hope not a second of their time is utilized in helping out the pro Park PAC. The information promoting the Park on the Town's web site is way out of line. Perhaps illustrations showing the shock on residents faces when they receive their tax bill in 2011 could be put on this site.

Pro Park PAC members have you crunched the numbers to see how much this park will cost us? The Park debt load will mean the end of OV as a top notch community, and the tax burden unbearable for many. We need to stabilize our financial position as much as possible because unfortunately real bad times are right around the corner.

I do not believe that our P & Z Director, Sarah More, lives in OV.

She has made many decisions which have been detrimental to homeowners in The Town

Ferlin, I believe that you are correct and having watched and listened to Ms. More's 'knowledge' of the subject of zoning, both as it relates to the Town Codes as well as the AZ Statutes, I am convinced that she is totally unqualified both 'emotionally' as well as intellectually for the job. I've seen and heard her stumble over not only the Codes but their applications, I have seen and heard her skew many definitions of simple words, I have seen her on many occasions stumped on things she reasonably should know and I have seen her fumble through her 'book' to get simple answers (I have mused that perhaps the book is really empty and simply a prop).

It is rather apparent that town governments (as well as state and federal) have learned how to rob Peter to pay Paul, how to manipulate the system, and then have the gall to tell their constituents that they must come up with mo money even when bond money has been allocated.

Have to go; more later.

Town Clerk, Kathi Cuvelier, also does not live in Oro Valley. And she has repeatedly stood in the way of the citizens' rights to the democratic process.

I've also listened to Sarah More answer questions with, "I'm pretty sure..." and "I think so." Isn't she making something like $100,000/year? For that much money, shouldn't she KNOW the answers?

Sarah Moore is as incompetent as they come. Who hired her in the first place?
