Bits and Pieces

Today: Arizona Run For The Fallen

If you see markers and runners along Oracle Road today it is a tribute to those who have fallen in service to our country.  The relay starts at Freedom Park in Tucson and continues to Pinal Pioneer Parkway.  The Oro Valley Police Department will lead the relay. There Ain't No Workin' Pump At Steam Pump Ranch

We asked last week if there was one. No one replied.  So, we'll give you the answer. No. There is not working pump at Steam Pump Ranch.  We think there should be one.  It would be a great project for volunteer work. Anyone interested?

OVPD receives grant funding for DUI enforcement vehicles ORO VALLEY, Ariz.

(October 15, 2013) - Through $119,000 in grant funding from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, the Oro Valley Police Department was able to purchase a new 2013 Ford E350 DUI phlebotomy van and a 2013 "Police Package" DUI Chevy Tahoe.

The phlebotomy van will be deployed regularly with the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force to provide regional support to participating police departments. This van will create efficiencies by enabling investigating officers and suspects to remain on-scene for an investigative blood draw, eliminating the need to drive to an area hospital. The van will also be on display during public safety events to promote DUI education and

awareness. The Chevy Tahoe will be a designated "DUI Enforcement" vehicle and will replace an older vehicle within the OVPD fleet. This vehicle will be deployed during the evening hours with the primary mission of removing impaired drivers from our roadways.

The Oro Valley Police Department would like to thank Governor's Office of Highway Safety for their continued partnership and support.

Speed Cameras No Boon To Traffic Safety

A Pima County study has revealed that...

“'The use of fixed, stand-alone cameras generally has not been as effective as hoped in reducing speeds and crashes because drivers tend to rapidly decrease their speed before reaching the camera and then speed up quickly after passing the camera,'[Pima County Adminstrator} Huckelberry wrote in a memo to the county Board of Supervisors."

The county needed a study to figure this out? (Source)
