Mary Snider's 2010 Appeal Not To Approve The Budget Until The New Members Are Seated

---

On May 19, 2010 at 1:28:30 of a Town Council Meeting, Mary Snider appealed to the Council to not approve the 2010-2011 budget until the new members of council were seated in June.   You can view and listen to her eloquent appeal.

It is our belief that the same situation applies now, in 2012, when there are two new council members seated.  As Mary points out, approval of the budget for a new fiscal year does not take place until after the new members are seated.

Mary was quite correct.

-The following is a 7 year history of the dates of approval of the Oro Valley budget:

Budget Year          Approval Date  Election Year?
·       FY 2011/2012     June 15, 2011   Non Election Year
·      FY 2010/2011     June 16, 2010   Election Year
·      FY 2009/2010     June 17, 2009   Non Election Year
·      FY 2008/2009     July 16, 2008   Election Year
·      FY 2007/2008     July 18, 2007   Non Election Year
·      FY 2006/2007     July 19, 2006   Election Year

We agree with Mary that the budget should be approved by a new council.

The question today is: Does Mary agree with herself?   And what of Mayor Hiremath and Council Members Waters and Hornat, should they not also agree? After all, they benefited from the decision to delay approval in 2010.  Will they agree now that the "shoe is on the other foot" in 2012?
