We asked you to vote on whether you felt that the town should move forward with a $3.4 million renovation of the Town pool. This pool is located a Kreigh Park. Your vote was split:
- 42% For
- 40% Nay
- 16% did not know that Oro Valley had a town pool.
Funding for the remodeling will be from three sources:
- $400,000 in parks and recreation impact fees
- $500,000 in bed-tax fund cash reserve
- $2.55 million in bond proceeds
Being a world-class town means that sometimes we need to spend a buck on important recreational facilities. This pool is important as it can be a centerpiece for swimming athletics in the north part of the county.
Your vote was close, but the Council was not. It was unanimously in favor.

I would gladly give the $40K wasted on TREO to the pool project. When TREO funding is placed on next years agenda, I hope it is voted down.
Nombe....Why?
I question the pool expenditure only on the grounds that we appear to not be willing to charge the users sufficient money to make this the pool a break even project. Somewhere in leadership is a thought process that pool should be subsidized by the taxpayers. I disagre with that.

Should like this charge users a fair fee?
Should that fair fee have a reasonable relationship to the cost of operating the facility.
Otherwise, isn't this simply another form of subsidizing. In this case, the town is subsidizing the probably less than 5% of the population that use the pool.
