So, Mary Snider believes the PAC that initiated a recall of her and fellow Council Member Hornat is "irresponsible."
Her reason, as reported in The Explorer, is "because of the cost and the damage to the Oro Valley image a recall will cause."
Well--- Ms. Snider should have given a little more thought (did she give any thought, whatsoever?)what her voting record in her one year in office has done to the people of Oro Valley?
We have documented her abysmal record in a number of postings, but it's worth repeating once again. (By the way, her record is wonderful if you happen to be any one of a number of Special Interest Groups. It's only abysmal if you are one of the unfortunate citizens that has been so negatively impacted by this lady.)
Briefly, she:
1) Voted to appoint Steve Solomon, a developer to the vacant council seat, bypassing 18 other candidates that didn't meet HER prerequisite (they were only volunteer citizens)
2) Voted to approve a temporary budget that included a doubling of our Utility Tax WITHOUT any concern for the impact of those that can barely make "ends meet."
3) With total disregard to our elderly and disabled, she voted for the demise of the Coyote Run Bus Service, leaving hundreds of our fellow citizens scampering to find other transportation to doctors, shopping, therapy, etc.
4) Agreed with our Town Manager (who just resigned) that it's a great idea to give OV employees the day before Christmas & New Years off WITH pay. And let's not forget, that also includes their birthday. Great for the workers. Not so great for the people (taxpayers) who must pay for the thousands of dollars in lost work productivity.
5) I won't even go into detail, on the way she treats the cops. She thinks they are Gods that deserve raises, free cars and who knows how many other perks that WE pay for.
Now, Mary Snider says, we're being "irresponsible." Look in the mirror lady

As usual, same old crap and sour grapes.
What a waste of time and money.
A bruised ego can sometimes be dangerous.
So her problem with this is "...the cost and the damage to the Oro Valley image..." I'll bet she sat up all night coming up with THAT one!
Here's a question for Ms. Snider:
Did you sign the OV1st pledge not to shop at OV Marketplace if Wal-Mart was chosen as the anchor? No?
Did you do ANYTHING to try to prevent Wal-Mart from locating in Oro Valley? No?
Hmmm...sounds like it's not ORO VALLEY'S IMAGE that you're worried about!
I think the irresponsibility is in Ms Snider's not considering the people/residents.....the taxpayers.
Is Ms Snider the one who "knows" what the people of Oro Valley wish? Now elected, she will follow her own will or the needs of the citizens?
What is Ms Snider's "image" of/for Oro Valley?
It is a "dated" concept, but what happened to her representing the constituents? Going by her platform of "no taxes", it would seem she has sequed into "tax and spend".
I sometimes save posts by others who disagree with me on how something will turn out in the end. That way, when my prediction turns out to be right, I can repost THEIR argument to remind them of what they said. With that in mind and due to the recent vote by Hiremath-Snider-Waters-Hornat to raise the utility tax, I give you this:
A post by OV Dad on 5/26/10:
"You truly believe there is an evil conspiracy on their (Waters-Hornat-Snider-Hiremath) part to change all that is dear to you in Oro Valley. Have you ever talked to any of them? You could not be more wrong. Yes, they are in favor of being more flexible with zoning codes and town laws to enable easier business access to Oro Valley. Yet, this is not due to an evil conspiracy wanting to make your life worse. Instead, it is part of a cohesive economic policy that will ensure fiscal stability in this town without raising taxes."
My response:
So...they relaxed the sign code to let businesses use A-frame signs and banners which was supposed to bring in more business and therefore more tax revenue which would in turn mean that they wouldn't have to raise our taxes.
I (and many others) argued that the A-frame signs and banners would just make the town look tacky but wouldn't do a thing to increase tax revenues. And what happened?
Fast-forward one year later...
The council members with the brilliant idea for economic stability that would avoid raising our taxes just voted to raise our taxes!
The prosecution rests.
VC and Ferlin,
Wonderful insights into Snider's image making of OV and her irresponsibilty.
Permit me to point out how dramatic her turnaround was last night at the Coyote Run public hearing after only weeks earlier her having assured the voters that the Council worked the transportation issue out and the very same services were in place but the difference was OV would be
billed.
What is so puzzling is that she and Hornat attended TOV meetings last year and witnessed firsthand how Council members came primed and prepared to hammer out the issues. Yet she and Hornet rarely offer any insights or ask questions. Last night demonstrated how uninformed she was because Snider quickly reversed her position when educated about it.
While Hiremath, Solomon and Waters admit they did not attend Town meetings, if they are assuming responsibility to govern, they need know what the job requires, to educate themselves before the discussions. Wasn't there a budget retreat to study this? The taxpayers paid for that. HMMMM!!!
PS
While Snider's role on Council does not impress me, I have high regard for what she achieves in the school system. When deaf ears resonate with the cries of, " more money for education", they go deaf.Yet somehow they listen to her.
How does she get heard in one arena and not another?
My best guess? Snider has deep conviction about how to educate youth. There is nothing quite like the conviction of a lioness doing battle for her cubs.
I respect those accomplishments of hers and wish she'd dedicate herself to that battle. Youth of Arizona need her.
