If this item does not get the caring people of Oro Valley totally upset, nothing will.
Councilmember Solomon has requested that the vote on the Coyote Run service be returned to the Council agenda for reconsideration and Councilmember Waters has seconded this request. Pursuant to Rule 11.1(B) of the Town Council's Parliamentary Rules & Procedures, the reconsideration of any action taken by Council must be by motion by a Councilmember who was on the prevailing side of the vote. Such motion must be filed with the Town Clerk's office and the Clerk shall place the item on the agenda.
If the motion is successful, because there is a requirement to provide a 30-day notice to the public, the reconsideration of the matter will need to be continued to a specific date in the future that allows enough time for public notice.
Whether Hiremath, who is the VP of the RTA had a hand in getting Waters & Solomon to add this to the June 15 agenda, or not, this news is not only distressing, but outrageous.
Can there be any justification whatsoever for THIS council to allow approx 68 cop cars to be taken home---many of these being out of Oro Valley, while even considering discontinuing the outstanding service rendered by Coyote Run and the caring drivers?
What a disgrace. Trying to save $230,000---which would come from the bed tax revenue, which is the cost of the Coyote Run, while the cop budget is in the millions of dollars and almost 50% of the town's overall budget, can never be justified.
This is nothing but a heartless action that tells the people of Oro Valley---especially our most vulnerable, that you mean absolutely nothing.
Shame on Hiremath. Shame on Waters. Shame on "The Appointed One," Solomon, and shame on Hornat and Snider if they have the audacity to support this.

After visiting Town Hall today, I saw this motion is now listed as #6 on the Regular Agenda after #5 approving the 2011-12 budget... I wonder if the mayor would even consider moving it to be first on the agenda.
Hiremath may well see fit to move this item up on the agenda. I guess we'll just have to wait on what instructions he gets from the RTA!
