Now that the "technical difficulties" have been corrected, those that were not at the June 15 council meeting can listen & watch some of the most ignorant comments made by some on the council.
"The Appointed One," Solomon proved once again proved he should not even be on this council,as he kept repeating that if the Oro Valley Council is discussing the Rosemont Mine, they might as well discuss this country being in Afghanistan.
Joe Hornat kept repeating the question,why are we discussing this issue? He pointed out he had no expertise on the subject. Too bad nobody pointed out to Hornat that he has no expertise on many of the issues he votes on.
Then, there's Hiremath, who stated this issue "Just Happened To Come Up," just prior to calling the question which prohibited any speakers.
Hiremath speaks with a "forked tongue.This issue---a resolution passed unanimously over four years ago, didn't "just happen to come up."
It came up, and was placed on the consent agenda by Hornat & seconded by Solomon.
The question is not why it was on a consent agenda, or that Hiremath, Hornat, Snider, Solomon & Waters refused to allow any speakers.
The question is what benefit did Hornat & Solomon receive by putting this on the agenda after four plus years?
Too bad we have an Oro Valley Town Council with ONLY two members --- Bill Garner & Barry Gillaspie giving coherent,intelligent arguments.
Hopefully, the voters will come to understand this, sooner, rather than later.

I listened to the meeting last night. Once again, GARNER AND GILLASPIE REPRESENTED THE PEOPLE by questioning the placement of this "controversial" item on the consent agenda and voting to allow speakers. As usual, they were voted down by the Fatal Five who only represent BUSINESS INTERESTS.
A standing room only crowd implies a controversial issue!
Now let's compare and contrast the reasons for or against allowing speakers:
GARNER: I support having public comment. This was supported by a resolution in 2007. To place it on a consent agenda, it has to be non-controversial. I certainly don't agree that this item is non-controversial, obviously with the amount of people that are here potentially supporting it or not supporting it.
GILLASPIE: This item is a regional issue. This item affects the economy and the environment and the quality of life for everybody in the area. Numerous governments in this area have all commented on it. It's part of the public process that we would submit a letter in this regard. This has sat quiety for 4 years and then out of the blue it was placed as a consent agenda item. It's NOT COMMON for a government to take an item that was passed by a previous council, and try to push it through as a consent item without public comment, particularly on an item that's so important. And I think the record would show, if we had the opportunity to talk about it, that any perceived economic benefit to this can be severely questioned. In fact, it looks like it could damage the economy of the region more than it might help it and that needs to be brought out in public.
And now the "reasons" for not allowing the public to speak:
SOLOMON: The Rosemont mine issue is outside the jurisdiction of the TOV. We need to concentrate on items within our jurisdiction. Is it appropriate for the TOV to take a position on something that's outside its jurisdiction?
HORNAT: To me, it's an overreach of what OV is supposed to be. We're not qualified to make the decision of whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. I put it on the consent agenda.
Do these people, Hiremath, Solomon, Hornat, Snider & Waters ever watch the meeting on streaming video AFTER the fact so they can witness first hand just how foolish they are?
Solomon compares this issue that DIRECTLY impacts OUR COMMUNITY --the environment, the wildlife & OUR water aquifer to the war in Afghanistan.
And this person represents US!
And then Hornat, who put the damn thing on the consent agenda, asks why they are even discussing this issue.
And people ask why there's a recall.
The only question is why Solomom & Hiremath did not head the list.
I don't believe the "five" ever watch the streaming video after any meeting. If they did, perhaps they'd notice the disrespect they show to residents, to other council members, and even staff members. It wouldn't surprise me if staff members started leaving Oro Valley... because of this council.
