Will Oro Valley continue to be inundated with all kinds of signs at commercial entities that we see presently?

The Town Council will discuss the issue at the Jan 19 meeting.

Just love the 3Cents per copy Sandwich Boards used by the UPS store in the Fry's Shopping Center. There are two of the; one in front of the store; the other in the entrance off Pusch View Land entrance.

And then there's the cheap meals sign that was sitting outside the loop.

Oro Valley looks like dump city.

Schlock.

The Oro Valley Council did discuss the Sign Code Issue (the Temporary Sign Waiver Program, and YES, Oro Valley WILL CONTINUE to be inundated with all kinds of signs at commercial entities that we see presently.

SOME COULD EVEN BECOME PERMAMENT. Make certain you attend the 2/16/11 Regular Council Meeting at which action will be taken on the OV Revised Sign Code.

Make your certain your concerns are known.

Signs should only be allowed on a temp. basis.
There are many shops that need a boost. Flavor of India - for example - at the Safeway Center on Rancho Vistoso is almost invisible. But after a reasonable amount of time, the sign should come down.

i am sorry but i must disagree with the prevailing opinion. times are very tough and if the businesses think that signs can help them i would like to see us extend their use until end of 2011. remember that in addition to providing needed services they also pay a good share of taxes. i for one am willing to turn my head the other way if i find a sign not up to community standards.

The evaluation done by the town staff based on the financial/customer count information submitted by those who had submitted permits for waivers, while inconclusive demonstrated positive results.

The new language in the code surrounding temporary signs will allow for some additional temporary signage throughout the year for a limited amount of time. That sounds somewhat confusing, but a business may place a temporary sign three or four times a year for 30 days. At this time that provision still does not contain an allowance for the temporary sign to be a sandwich board which, I believe it should.

However all of the temporary signs should have clear guidelines for size, location and appearance.

But the sky didn't fall with the additional signage and the Town did realize additional sale tax benefit.

I would have to disagree with the Zeeman's impression that our Town looks like a "dump city".
