Setting The Record Straight As It Concerns Our Candidates Of Choice

We have a couple of detractors that go out of their way to denigrate me, the Council Members we helped elect in 2008, and the candidates we support in this critical election.

One issue being brought up is one about "Special Interest Groups." For those readers that may not realize it, allow me to reiterate our position. We are leery of ANY Special Interest Group supporting any candidates. Why? Because when an "entity" supports a candidate with either endorsements, money, or more than likely, both, we wonder, "Are they being gracious, or do they expect something in return?"

We supported Bill Garner & Salette Latas in the last election. Neither sought nor received any endorsement from any outside sources, and both were elected in the March primary---a first for Oro Valley.

We believe, without doubt, that Bill & Salette have exceeded any expectations from their constituents, and they both remain true to their word in supporting the best interest of the majority of the people of Oro Valley.

This time around, there are only two candidates we support: Mike Zinkin for Mayor and Dr. Don Emmons for Council.

For those readers that want to believe that Bill and/or Salette are obligated to me, all I can say is; "It 'aint' so."

I've stated here on a number of occasions, I do not want nor do I expect anything whatsoever from any candidate we support --- except one thing. They should be true to their word and when elected, work hard and do what they believe serves the best interests of the vast majority of the people of our community.

Mike and Dr. Don hold the sames values as me. They neither sought nor wanted any endorsements from any entity within or outside the government. That includes, the Chamber of Commerce, the Home Builders, the Developers and the Police Unions.

Let our detractors tell you what it is I can expect for our support. Will they lavish me with gifts? Will they give me money? Will I get a glorified job? The answer is obviously "no." I want no personal gain in any way, shape or form.I want only one thing, and I'll say it again--- "I only want candidates, that when elected, will remember to serve the people of Oro Valley who put them in office"

Mike Zinkin & Dr. Don Emmons will work to that end. We are proud to ask you to vote for them. We hope you'll agree with our assessment as you did in 2008 for Bill & Salette.

Thanks for your consideration.

Art,

LOVE remains a place for diversity, intellectual questioning, polite debate, a place for free speech in OV. And you are encountering those who can't imagine why such a site exists if it doesn't profit financially? Your detractors maintain money is what oils the blog's wheels.

What limited thinking! How sad their lives must be! Have they never heard of integrity and principle?

Oro Valley needs a place for open discussion. Please continue this forum inspite of their jealousy and fear. Of course, they will continue to attack the blog. They don't like any opinion except their own. They want to discourage you.

Yes, Salette and Bill have exceeded voters' expectations and kept their campaign promises. When did any politicians do that before?
They are to be commended for careful research, study, and care about the outcome of their issues. While they were newly elected, let's include Barry Gillaspie, the incumbent, who worked diligently with them, bringing an intelligence and thoroughness to the Council this term. What a dynamic change from the previous council!

This is a statement of contradictions and distortions, Desert Voice. "A place for free speech"; why are you then knocking it? "Polite debate" - many, including Art, have been impolite.
No one I know thinks that this is a site [for financial profit]. "Your detractors maintain money is what oils the blog's wheels" - that is a FALSE STATEMENT and without foundation or credibility. Desert Voice, your naivety is showing.

Desert Voice--- Thank you for your comment---and thanks for recognizing the contributions by Barry Gillaspie.

Sadly, Bill, Salette & Barry were a minority when some decisions wrere made, especially the one where our Town Manager was terminated.

I hope the voters remember it was Loomis & Carter that were responsible for that egregious action.

Zev,

Perhaps, what was written is not clear...I do believe that one can blog here with diverse opinions...I believe that one needs to disagree politely...Art states there are detractors...yes, I've heard complete strangers react with some trepidation about LOVE...it is easy when one is passionate about an issue to respond heatedly...including yours truly...but what I am saying is that the blog does not exist for financial gain...but to make a difference.

Can you recommend an alternative forum to voice one's opinion in OV?

Zev, there is no alternative. I agree completely with your post.

Correction - I meant Desert Voice - I agree with your post.

Desert Voice, I appreciate your clarification; 'freedom fighters' I appreciate your affirmation of Desert Voice. An alternative forum? This one is so jaded it has become too muddled to extract truth, conviction, fact or fiction out of it.

Go to the Council Meetings, become involved in the Town as a volunteer, speak with those who are in the ditches, talk to your friends, talk to those who you perceive to be your enemies, if you oppose something speak with someone who does not. Call the candidates, e-mail the candidates, question the candidates, and do so also with those on Council or with those on staff. Don't put all of your marbles in one basket and don't be intimidated; then, and only then, come to your own conclusions.

As to this site, after several years of commentary here, I am going to bow out and continue my own interaction with the People of this Town, not with those who are simply crafting personal agendas or
their own super egos.

THE END

Well I, for one, am sorry to see Zev go. Always a good voice for the blog.

There is a subtext here, you would have to be as spaced out as KCC to miss it. I guess we will find out what pissed him (Zev) off at the same time looney Loomis lets us know why our former town manager was fired.

Yes fired Loomis! Hope your days as mayor are numbered.

Nombe,

Are you saying Andrews fired Loomis? or Loomis fired Andrews?

Please clarify.

Nombe Watanabe said...

sorry. Active voice confusion.

"Yes fired Loomis" = Loomis fired Andrews.
