We believe the Oro Valley Council chambers will be filled to capacity on Wed. June 17 (see agenda on left column for details.)
Item 2 - PUBLIC HEARING - RESOLUTION NO. (R)09 - 34 ADOPTION OF FINAL FISCAL YEAR 2009/2010 TOWN OF ORO VALLEY ANNUAL BUDGET AND FIVE-YEAR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN FOR FISCAL YEARS 2009/2010 THROUGH 2012/2014
item 3 - ACCEPTANCE OF THE REPORT OF THE ORO VALLEY LIBRARY REVIEW COMMITTEE, FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
We can be pretty sure many of the Oro Valley employees will be interested in the council decision on the 2009-2010 budget as the decision can impact the status of the work force.
As for the library issue, the Friends of the Library and others that have a vested interest will surely want to have their voices heard as to whether or not Oro Valley turns the library over to Pima County in order to save in excess of $600,000 in double taxes.
If you are interested in how your tax dollars are spent, it would behoove you to attend and have your voice heard---regardless of which side of the issue you are on.

The Explorer Quotes Oro Valley Council Members On Last Week's Tentative Budget Approval
I believe Dave Perry, editor & publisher of The Explorer performed an admirable service to the citizens of Oro Valley, in his story on last Wednesday's Council discussion and approval of a tentative budget.
Why do I say that? Our readers need only read the accurate quotes of the Council Members to get a true understanding of which three really understand the ramifications of their action.
I hope all our readers will take a few moments to read the article; paying particular attention to the quotes.
If you then disagree with our assessment that ONLY Council Members Garner, Gillaspie & Latas have a firm grip on reality, please be good enough to comment, and present your case.
We can only hope that one of the majority will "see the light," and join with Barry, Bill & Salette to pass a GOOD, FINAL 2009-2010 BUDGET at the June 17 council meeting.

Oro Valley Resident Echos Our Thoughts
In his letter to The Explorer, OV resident David Sattinger says what we've been saying. Please read his very astute observations.
***************************************************************************************
Mayor, council backers out of touch with people
Mayor Loomis, together with Oro Valley Council members Kunisch, Carter and Abbott, recently voted to donate $25,000 of taxpayer money to the Critical Path Institute, despite a recent poll showing that only about 10 percent of Oro Valley taxpayers approved of this contribution.
Fifty-six percent opposed any contribution whatsoever, and 34 percent opposed giving the Institute the requested amount.
Not only that, but the council is considering levying property taxes and increasing various other taxes, such as utility taxes and retail sales taxes.
The mayor and his supporters on the council appear to be out of touch with the voters. Perhaps they need to be reminded by the voters in the next election of their obligations to their constituents.

Two Points Of View On Oro Valley's Concern For Pets
For the most part, we have avoided what some feel is an important issue concerning Oro Valley. Council Member Salette Latas is in the forefront of trying to do what she can to protect the pet owners and pets of Oro Valley. There are those, that take her to task for these noble efforts.
Below are two letters taking two points of view. One from Misti Chivaluksna-Smith One from Diane Peters. We agree with Ms. Peters.
One note: Explorer editor Dave Perry saw fit to edit and shorten Ms. Peter's letter to keep it under his "prescribed policy" of 350 words or less.
We find that decision to be totally indiscriminate. Last week, Ms. Smith's husband wrote a letter chastising Salette as well as Bill Garner. The length of that letter? Three hundred and eighty words!
Dave --- It's your paper and your policy, but you may want to explain the discrepancy. (If you email me, I'll post your explanation.)
These two letters, plus all others can be viewed here.
