After great and considered reflection, our good friend and blogger Zev Cywan has decided not to pursue a Council seat in our upcoming election.
We're sure there are many citizens that will be disappointed by this announcement, but Zev felt if he couldn't give 100% to the position,it would be best to not compromise his values.
In addition to thanking all his supporters, Zev wanted us to know that he will continue to be a voice for the people of Oro Valley.
Certainly, we look forward to his continued participation in adding so much to our blog.
Following is Zev's message to all.
Please be advised that after having very carefully considered my options from many perspectives, and also having conferred with others who have offered or affirmed same, I have elected to withdraw absolutely from pursuing a seat on Town Council. I have concluded that such position was not what I had wanted for my retirement years nor could I expect that at my age, the standards for my now reasonably decent health would not possibly deteriorate during such a term and thus impinge on my ability to pursue the recreation and freedoms I want for my today and my tomorrows. In short, it must be 'ME' that precludes all else. I want to thank all of you who have (had) expressed their confidence that I could be an asset to the community by serving on Council; I assure you that I will not 'go away' and that I will continue to be a voice for the People of Oro Valley by offering my input and/or services within other capacities.

First rate guy. Pleasure to get to know him. I know that he will make a positive contribution to Oro valley in any capacity he chooses.
Chuck and Zev,
If a person is willing to do the work of a Council Member the demands can be stressful even in the best of times.
I dropped in on the Council Retreat Saturday. While sitting there, I remembered Barry when he was first elected. He had strawberry blonde hair. He's completely grey now...hum. Think there is any stress there?
A few years back Paul Loomis had a heart attack.
Life is short. There are other ways to give back to your community.
Happy Trails to you both!
Conny-- very thoughtful of you. I am completing the CPI and will be looking for appropriate vehicle for my talents. Suggestions are welcome.
Conny, thank you for your very sensitive expression and Chuck, thank you for yours; there IS so much contribution that we can make as non-elected persons and I believe that with this kind of attitude, we will!
Zev...
Thumbs up my friend. Sometimes you can be very effective when you are away from the center. There is more room....if you get my drift.
Don
Zev...
We completely understand.
Blog On!!!!
Understand, thinker - thanks for the 'thumbs'. Zee Man, thanks, too, and I will.
I was saddened to see that both Chuck Davis and Zev Cywan decided to drop out of the race, I suspect for the same reasons, and I don't blame them.
Politics is an ugly businesses, even in the small town of Oro Valley.
I have met both Chuck and Zev and I believe they can be equally as effective in shaping our town as involved and concerned citizens, focusing on isolated issues (where there is "more room" to operate, as Thinker noted) rather than as council members with all of the limitations that would have been placed on them. (Unless of course your name is Loomis where apparently there are no limitations on what you can do.)
I've also met Mike Zinkin and believe he will be a formidable opponent in the Mayoral race.
This is depressing. I understand Zev's decision.
On a personal level it is really understandable; I am sorry for the residents of Oro Valley. IF no one will stand up to the problems, what will happen???
I might as well move back to Valdosta.
Ferlin--- Don't move yet. When Mike Zinkin becomes Mayor of Oro Valley, everything will get better.
Having Dr. Don Emmons on the Council will add a lot of intelligence and a very good listener.
We need to elect these two in order to achieve the goals set forth by Bill, Barry & Salette.
I have also met Zev, briefly, but in that short time I saw what a wonderful fellow he is. Zev, sorry you can't go through with the election. Do indeed understand.
