Private School Students More Tolerant and Politically Accepting
Survey shows students in private school are more likely respect diversity

Phoenix--Are Arizona's high school students better served by private or public schools? We asked those who know best: the students.

The Goldwater Institute surveyed students in public and private high schools about the academic environment and racial and political tolerance in their schools. The results are being released in two reports. The first, "Tough Crowd: Arizona High School Student School Evaluation" measured students' satisfaction with their schools and the schools' academic environments. The second, "Better Citizens, Lower Cost: Comparing Scholarship Tax Credit Students to Public School Students" examines student perceptions about civic tolerance, diversity and volunteerism within their schools.

The survey shows that by a four-to-one margin, students in private schools report a greater sense of civic responsibility, look forward to going to school, volunteer in their community and value diversity over their public school counterparts.

Survey responses include:

"My school teaches me to value, respect and tolerate differences in others."
76 percent of students in private school agree with that statement, compared with 51 percent of students in public school.

"My school treats all students with respect regardless of race."
64 percent of students in private high school agree with that statement, compared with 40 percent of public school students.

"My school has high expectations of me."
71 percent of students in private high school agree with that statement, compared with 48 percent of students in public high school.

"I look forward to going to school."
Only 66 percent of students in private high school agree with that statement, compared to 47 percent of students in public school.

"This survey punches semi-truck sized holes in the old arguments against private school education, and in turn, the value of the tuition tax credit program," said Goldwater Institute Vice President of Research Matthew Ladner, Ph.D. "Students are in the best position to tell us what's really going on in the classroom, and the results show students in private schools are getting a better education and adopting better civic values, all at a lower price tag to the taxpayer."

The Goldwater Institute is an independent government watchdog supported by people who are committed to expanding free enterprise and liberty.

This survey is extremely interesting and I am glad that it was finally taken and published.

"My school teaches me to value, respect and tolerate differences in others." 76% private schoolers agree/ 51 public schoolers agree.

-The liberals are running the public schools and you would think that the result of this one would be opposite, but it wasn't. Liberalism in politics and tolerance no longer go hand in hand.

"My school treats all students with respect regardless of race."
64% private schoolers agree/ 40% public schoolers agree.

-This is no surprise as once again the libs are running the public schools and are teaching to hate the young white man. Race is no longer top priority as sexual orientation is.

"My school has high expectations of me." 71% private schoolers agree / 48% public schoolers agree

-Public schools are no longer a place to get an education as much as a place for parents to send their kids to for free child care. If the parents don't care what happens in schools, how are their kids supposed to?

"I look forward to going to school." 66% private schoolers agree / 47% public schoolers agree

-Most high schoolers, public and private most likely only look forward to going to school for the social aspect. Very few kids enjoy going to school to work. There are exceptions though.

In conclusion, private schoolers are not only getting a better educations and civic values, but most likely have a higher moral standard and better values than their public school counter parts.
There was a time when one could get an excellent education in public schools but that is far and few between. The liberals have taken over all levels of education to purposely dumb down America. It is evident with the pattern of each generation getting dumber and dumber. Just more evidence that the government ruins everything they try to run.
We need less government control not more.

LBC-09,

If, "The liberals are running the public schools" why are there schools that have been forced to eliminate sex education (human biology - science) and evolution from their curriculum?

"Liberalism...and tolerance no longer go hand in hand."

So "tolerance" is the hallmark of the conservatives? Yes, that's why they walk into abortion clinics and shoot the receptionist, and it's why they carry signs that say, "God hates fags."

"The libs are running the public schools and are teaching to hate the young white man."

Why would white men teach kids to hate white men? Your comment implies that liberals are all minorities.

"Race is no longer top priority as sexual orientation is."

Here you imply that race SHOULD be a top priority. That makes you a racist, which of course would explain many of your other comments on this post.

"The liberals have taken over all levels of education to purposely dumb down America."

Wrong again. It's the conservatives (especially the far right religious zealots) who are always trying to remove certain studies from the curriculum. THEY are the ones who want everyone to be dumb. They NEED everyone to be dumb because smart people do not vote for religious nutcakes.

Look at the map of red states and blue states. The blue states are where most of the intellectuals live. I have lived in a blue state and a red state and have witnessed the difference in intellect. In fact, my friends who have also lived in red and blue states have made the same observation.

After living in AZ for just one year, I made the following comment...Newhart fans will be happy to know that Larry, Daryl and Daryl are alive and well, living in Arizona, and they have multiplied!

Also, keep in mind that this study was conducted only in ARIZONA where nothing is up to par with anything on the east coast. There are plenty of places in the USA where one can get an excellent public school education.
