Thorns & Flowers

Flowers to Nancy Young Wright, whom the Pima County Board of
Supervisors selected Friday to fill the state legislative seat of Lena S.
Saradnik, after she resigned to recover from a stroke.
The Democrat will represent District 26, which includes parts of the
Foothills, Marana and Oro Valley. Young Wright is a three-time member of
the Amphitheater School Board.
Young Wright is no stranger to taking on powerful interests — she has
fought Oro Valley on environmental causes and, as a parent volunteer,
helped force the Amphi governing board to include a call to the public in
its meetings. She is a tireless advocate for open government, public
education, children and the environment. She doesn't take the easy road on
important issues and she will have her work cut out for her in the
Legislature. We're confident in her abilities to serve Arizona.

"Oro Valley Picks A Losing Battle In Blogoshere"--Az Star Editorial

The Arizona Star took an editorial position on our "LOVE" issue with Oro Valley.

The Star's View---- "Town was wrong to ask blogger to register as political committee; actions only attracted attention to site."

We are very grateful for the Star taking up our cause. Allow me to make a couple of comments.

I was not "ASKED" to register as a political committee. I was told I "MUST" register.

In the context of the editorial, two incumbents seeking re-election; Terry Parish & Helen Dankwerth both said they didn't know about the situation until the Town's Attorney's Office told the council it was seeking an outside opinion as to whether I was required to register.

This sounds good, but it is "tail wagging." Parish & Dankwerth either show their ineptitude of what is going on in Town Hall, or it verifies what we say.

As of the hiring of Mr. Rosen the new Town Attorney's predecessor in 2006, Oro Valley's legal department reports to the Town Council. Why then did the attorney's see fit to have the town spend taxpayer's money on an outside law firm's opinion----and who, if anyone gave this authorization?

I would be extremely surprised if the more than capable Town Attorney's Office acted unilaterally on first attempting to force me to form a political committee; and then to determine another opinion was required.

Hopefully, the Star can get these answers---especially since the Town has never even told me they won't pursue the issue. It wasn't until this past Wed. Council meeting that Parish saw fit to be the "Town's Spokesperson" in responding to an irate citizen taking up my cause, that I heard their position.

And they wonder why I support Latas & Garner! Oro Valley needs a breadth of fresh air!!!
