The May 1 AZ Daily Star reports on the new mixed use development known as Vistoso Town Center. This is an 87 acre acre archaeological parcel off of Rancho Vistoso Blvd that is scheduled to open in 2010.

So did this guy come to town hall with his hands out looking for some money? No. And so far this sounds like a nice project. So there ya go,
we in OV don't have to pay off developers to come here.
What a nice change from developers like Vestar and Vistoso Partners.
When Linens n' Things locates in a mall anchored by Wal-Mart, I always want to ask, "How's that workin' for ya?"
I mean, LNT can sell me some 200-thread-count sheets made in India for $29.99, and Wal-Mart will sell them for $27.88.
Well, I need that 5-gallon jar of pickles anyway, and LNT doesn't sell those, so I guess I'll go to WM.
Okay, as the GEICO gekko says, "That's a complete dramatization." But I think you get my point. Why would any national discount chain want to locate in the same strip mall as a Wal-Mart?
Oro Valley Mom.,
You asked a good question.
I really can't think of many reasons why another discount chain store would want to locate near a Wal-Mart.
Ok, I have shopped at the Linens n' Things store at foothills mall, but I don't care to shop at the Wal-Mart.
Since I have been made aware of the horrible business practices of Wal-Mart, I just won't give them any of my money. Thank God I have that option.
For a while I thought that maybe the new mall had some potential, well ok, a little potential to attract some nicer stores.
Now I think the Vestar Mall will be one big junk mall.
Maybe Vestar is trying to attract
some more "unique" stores like
dollar stores and big lots.
Yeah they will all be lined up for miles to shop at the Wal-Mart, and
other junk stores. yeah right.
Oops. I meant to post my LNT comment under the appropriate story. Okay, so to make it relevant to this story, I heard that the Vistoso Town Center is going to be recruiting local stores and restaurants and not chains. Good for them.
Any posting from you, OV Mom, is always welcome even if, just once, it was posted to the "wrong" comment.
Your point is well taken. Wal-Mart is a veritable Lion when it comes to discount retailing.
Another discount retailer would have to be very special and focused in order to beat them.
