With over 8800 ballots cast, Barry Gillaspie won the election for the 3rd seat, beating the other incumbent Terry Parish by more than 2200 votes. (5544 vs. 3266)
We believe once again the voters of Oro Valley showed their displeasure with the existing council and looked at Gillaspie as a much more viable choice than Parish who outwardly acknowledged his unabashed support for the development community.
We believe this result is a win-win situation. It's a win for Oro Valley as many believe Barry will be more apt to join the new majority as a result of Bill Garner & Salette Latas' victory in the primary.
We also believe, in the long run Terry's loss will actually be his gain, as he can now concentrate on his full time job with the Pima County Sheriff's Department, and have more time to spend with his family.

Barry,
Your qualifications in planning and your skills in people handling make you a good complement to others on the council...Looking forward to the next few years and better changes for OV!
Congratulations, Barry!
Cowgirl says, "Yee-haw!" I love sticking it to Vestar any way I can! They gave thousands to Terry's campaign, but this time all their money couldn't sway the voters.
Congratulations, Barry!
Barry,
How exciting to have an individual that has a comprehension of what is needed on Town Council for this town...now with you, Salette and Bill there will be the opportunity to bring forth the necessary experience that will be required for the many projects that are planned for this year.
Congratulations...
Wow. Very, very good news.
This should send a strong message to those out-of-town developers that their money can't buy them influence in Oro Valley anymore.
It should send a message to the Chamber of Commerce et al regarding the amount of influence they have in Oro Valley.
Best of all, it should send a message to the Oro Valley voters that they are, ultimately, the deciders.
THE CITIZENS HAVE SPOKEN! This should send out a strong message to those who have ignored us for so long. This took a concerted effort by the Candidates AND the People whose determination to execute on a better life for Oro Valley has most certainly been rewarded. Congratulations to Salette, Bill, and Barry - all of you have done the community proud, all of you have a pro-community spirit, and all of you will hold the vision of the community in high respect; of that I am certain!
Special kudus to ART SEGAL for enabling this blog site. His commentary and tenacity most certainly contributed greatly in offering a forum for discourse on those issues which confront/have confronted the citizens of Oro Valley.
Art, thank you!
I too would like to offer my congratulations to Barry. He has been a friend and a great asset to the Town and I look forward to his in-depth input to the zoning issues that are on the near horizon.
And strange as it may seem, I am also very happy this blog is here also so many of you have an opportunity to read and evaluate another side of the equation.
By the way, Zev, that would be "kudos".
Thanks for pointing out my typo, OV SPELLCHECKER
Couldn't we please get rid of "Big Al" :)
Zev, why do you not run? Let us please recall Al Kunisch.
