The April 30 Explorer reports that the Oro Valley proposed new budget is $201 million. This is an increase of $82 million from last year.
Why such a big increase, you ask? An Explorer article answers the question.
Nearly $50 million of the increase tracks from budgeted expenses tied to passage of the Naranja Town Site proposed park. In November voters will determine the fate of the park.
Another $32 million of the budget is hinged on the new Municipal Operations Center.
You can read or download a copy of the town manager's recommended budget by visiting the Oro Valley web site. Simply click on the line we have in the bottom left column.

Outrageous!
Yes, it is outrageous, so where is the outrage ?
Have these guys ever heard of a freeze on spending.
We need a citizens group to monitor the town spending.
It really is out of control.
When you remove the Naranja Park money and the construction costs of the Town Operation Center out of the budget, then the increase is very, very small.
Today, 5/3, there was a budget work session held at Town Hall. It was open to the public. It is probably THE most important meeting the Council holds in their entire annual agenda. I am proud to say that I attended. I am also disappointed that there were very few people who post on this blog in attendance.
That begs the question, how interested are you in the process and how much time are you willing to invest in YOUR community?
I think the answer is clear. I post frequently on this blog. But one of the differences that I see is that I am willing to invest my time and energy in attending these informative meetings and finding out accurate information. Art wasn't there. Zee, you weren't there. Of course, Zev wasn't there...:-)!!!
Most importantly, PAULA ABBOTT wasn't there. As usual she avoided attending the budget meeting. Look at her record. It's really sad that as an elected official, she can't make it.
Don
I was too busy trying to inform the citizens on the issues via the blog.
The main difference between Cox and Paula Abbott is this: Paula got elected and re-elected to the town council. The voters were smart enough to not allow Cox to make decisions that would negatively impact us, having defeated him four times.
Look at Paula's record. A true advocate of the people!!!
Art....
If you consider spreading misinformation being "busy", I would agree with you. :-)
Have a good week.
