Please Read AZ Star Weds. Jan 16---Oro Valley vs. "LOVE" Blog

I would encourage all our friends & neighbors to read the article by reporter Lourdes Medrano that will be in the Wednesday edition (Jan 16) Arizona Star.

It concerns Oro Valley letting me know that my "organization" (my blog) must file a Statement of Organization as a Political Committee as I have endorsed Salette Latas & Bill Garner for Town Council.

I refused, and on Dec. 17 the acting town attorney advised me they would solicit an outside law firm for an opinion. I have yet to be advised of the response OV received.

I will post a link to the article on the blog for those of you who may miss this story which really addresses the issue of Freedom Of Speech.

Wow, I just left a comment on another topic, joked about "Let OV Excel", and now see this stuff.

I can honestly say I've never lived in a town like OV where the town government operates reacts in such a punitive nature to those who don't conform to their way of thinking. Next think you know they will control the library and burn books that are not deemed acceptable.

I better turn my shortwave off before my signal is discovered by the authorities.

Art,
I look forward to reading the article.
Not sure what is going on in our town but things are not "kosher" when our town uses our money to try and stop us from voting on issues(SOVPG referendum), now our town seemingly is trying to use questionable tactics to stop you and others from voicing opinions. What are they afraid of?

Things need to change. We need a town council and town administration who works for the people not against the people.
We are the employers they are the employees.

Long live the LOVE blog!!!

Turtle,

They DO control the library! Oro Valley spends well over $1 MILLION per year to control the library. And it's a waste! They could just turn it over to the County. It's part of the County system anyway.

But Oro Valley doesn't like some of the County's library policies. The County libraries allow citizen groups to meet at the library at no charge; Oro Valley's policy lets the Town decide which groups are acceptable and which aren't, and charges a $300 deposit. At the County libraries, you can read any blogs online that you like. Oro Valley filters the Internet for adults and decides what you can read online and what you can't.

And for this nanny service, we are paying over ONE MILLION DOLLARS per year in tax money.
