Don't Forget To Register To Vote In Oro Valley Election

The last two Oro Valley elections for Town Council were extremely close. In the election for three seats on the Town Council in 2006, the vote wasn't decided until a recount, and the difference from first to fourth place was ONLY 45 total votes. The 3rd and final seat was determined by only a 3 vote difference.

So, if you think your vote doesn't count, that is the farthest thing from the truth.

Having contacted registered voters, I determined that many of our neighbors didn't vote mainly because of the following reasons:

1) They weren't familiar with the candidates.
2) They weren't familiar with the issues.
3) They didn't think their vote mattered
4) They didn't think it mattered who got elected.

Our Blog www.letorovalleyexcel.com might be a good source of information on the candidates and the issues. We certainly believe EVERY VOTE counts, (as noted above), and there is a major difference between the incumbents and the two challengers.

This year the election is by mail. Ballots will be mailed out to REGISTERED VOTERS starting Feb. 7, 2008. The election is on March 11.

If you're not registered, please do so. It is very simple, and it can be done in a couple minutes on-line. Please log on to http://www.azsos.gov/election/How_to_register.htm

Voter Registration applications must be completed twenty-nine days prior to an election in order to be eligible to vote in that election.

As Americans, voting is one of the rights that we sometimes take for granted. Not everyone who registers to vote does and many of the people who are eligible to vote don’t even register.

PLEASE REGISTER AND PLEASE VOTE.

YOUR VOTE DOES COUNT!

Thanks.

Arizona Federation of Taxpayers’ “Local Hero” Supports

Candidate for Oro Valley Town Council

Today, Pima County Supervisor Ray Carroll announced his support for Salette Latas in the race for one of three seats on the Oro Valley Town Council.

“Salette Latas is a champion of local businesses and residents of Oro Valley. She will listen to the community, and work with all members of the Council to do what is best for Oro Valley's residents, not what special interests tell her to do.”

“At a time when economic growth is slowing, adding more burden on taxpayers makes no sense,” stated Carroll in his announcement. “After over $50 million in tax subsidies were given to out-of-town developers, and after passing a utility tax in 2006, Oro Valley’s Council members are now advocating further tax subsidies for a foreign corporation and pushing for a new property tax. The people of Oro Valley deserve a fiscally responsible Council that will stop tax subsidies to special interests.”

Following Carroll’s announcement, Latas stated “I truly appreciate the support from an Arizona Taxpayers’ Hero. It’s time to end subsidies to corporations at the expense of taxpayers. Supervisor Carroll understands that this trend must stop. I will fight to represent the public interest and locally owned, independent business over the special interests of out-of-town corporations.”
